Proper purple strains?

Which seeds have the full on purple buds, as opposed to just the leaves?
i know purple bud is not a good thing, and if it had stayed green, you'd get more yield, but i just want some sexy looking ganj

Hi! Never heard of purple bud being a bad thing, or good for that matter. Why do you think that? And why do you think it would yield less?

The best pheno I have in my collection of seeds that I have bred myself for many years now from bagseeds has purple buds, no matter the temperatures.

It is the most potent and it has the biggest yields, an quite dense bud structure for a sativa dominant plant. Thats my experience anyway.

But I have no experiences with commercial strains apart from NL. So what you said might be true for some strains, but definitley not for all. Cheers!

i think its pretty well accepted that all cannabis plants will go purple under the right circumstances. The 'right circumstances' are actually bad conditions - like cold weather.
The purple is a secondary photosynthesis system used as back up if the more efficient green chlorophyll system fails. What we consider purple strains, are basically the retarded ones which lose their chlorophyll much quicker than other strains, i.e more sensitive to sub optimal conditions, or simply shorter lived chlorophyl. That is why purple strains are only really favored by people interested in looks - like me.

Even if a purple plant is amazingly strong and high yielding, it would always have been better if it was green.

Nope,not all plants will purple.It has to be in the genetic makeup.

And true purple genetics are purple through and through,not just the leaves.

Wrong,they have to have the underlying anthocyanin pigment in the genetic makeup.

If all plants turn purple in the cold then why is it only some of my plants (of different genetics) turn purple in the same grow environment hmmm?!

I believe he was asking about seeds. some nice purple strains are the fuckin incredible, grape ape, royal kush, bloom magoo, blue dragon, presidential kush Obama, dj short had some nice strains. some are clone only

And I agree only some plants will turn purple, they need to have that genetic trait.

Hi! I understand what you are saying and thats why I wrote the pheno I have has purple buds no matter the temp.

Just the calyxs are purple right from the start of flowering, and they go from light pruple to dark as they mature, the leaves remain green.

So this is a purely genetic trade and it has nothing to do with the enviroment conditions, like cold temp.

I dont care much about the appearances, and I wouldnt keep it if it were a low potency or a very low yieldnig plant.

For me the priority are the psychoactive effects, and Im sure thats true for most of us cannabis friendly people.

But it sure looks nice, so thats just icing on the cake.

Sorry couldnt be of much help with the strain selection. But my point was that although what you are saying isnt wrong, there are exceptions. Cheers!

so mine has actually started going purple now. It is a clone from a plant which did not go purple (but was a purple strain). I was disappointed the first time, thats why i opened this thread. the only thing differently I did the second time was use ice water at night. starting in last couple weeks (i assume its gonna get more purple later).
