My Carbon Filter Sucks.

Do you have a fan controller??

if not get one, carbon scrubbers work best when fan is running medium speeds, allowing the air to be scrubbed not just pulled through... try it if it doesn't work id say look for leaks in your grow space that are allowing non scrubbed air to disperse.
Good point.

Yeah prefilter is the white outer filter. Usually they turn grey after couple months using them. Yours looks pretty white for a 11 month old filter. Whats on the other side of the fan? Id get a 6x24 or even a 8x24 phresh filter.
will get phresh filter, gleaned the name from this thread. In the mean time, I reversed the flange, duct taped the flex duct connections, both fan and filter, and it seems to be working. Some carbon bits fell out, miniscule. I didn't know what was in there, this is first time dealing with issue.

You Cats Have Helped Me. Thank you all.

yes, have one, and it is set too high. Thought lightening speed would scrub odors better. Good, I'll turn her down and save power. Thanks.

As mentioned all air must pass through your filter and to do this with an open window you'd need to create negative pressure. If your intake is too big then you can't achieve this and you will have a leak...may not necessarily be your filter although I'd definitely consider it to be the culprit. You can shake the filter to fill any voids created in the carbon over time and if that doesn't work..drill the filter so you can refill it or replace it altogether. You can also double up on a filter if you really want to

Just closed opposite window. We are building cabin pressure, negative pressure. Just learned about it in this thread too. Ya know kids, I'm a farmer. (Wait, that's from woodstock) Yes, I'm a farmer. And pre-internet, for 20 years outside (in a different town ) I got the seediest crop each year (always one tiny male would impregnate the entire garden. I'd find him too late, smoking a cigar.) When the fall came, I would try to ADD light. Didn't make sense that 12 and 12 (less sunlight) produced the preferred feminine product.
If I knew then what I do now, I would have had a lot of seedless dewbage, enough to not have streetlamps in the house all winter and summer long.

Glad to hear it. I guess no death by wife today LOL grow on my friend
Heh...if I had a wife, I couldn't afford all this flex tubing. (I don't know what that means...) I have this idea for a movie scene. Cops come to house. I have 'the clapper' set to shut down grow room. I clap off lights. Police roam through house, leader comes in, says, "well, nothing to see here. (claps) let's go!" Lights come on. Claps again. Lights go off. Opens door, finds closet, opens that door. Cops look in, see great plants. Applaud. Lights flash on and off...."and cut. I think that's a take, print it."

Prefilter...what is that? the white cloth covering? Maybe there is something major I am doing way wrong. How about turning the cylinder around, will that do anything, they mentioned it in the store.
The instructions say always use the pre-filter, yes the white cloth.

And you should be ducting the hot air high, not low.

Even so, the filter should last 12-18 months.

You may want to discuss this matter with the shop or manufacturers of the said filter.

I mean high works but for ideal usage you don't want forced air going through cuz whats gunna happen is its gunna suck it through and not scrubb it all, some will still get through and stink

I bought a filter from HTG a few years back. Same thing, only lasted a month if that. Those "tall boys" are all made in china with crappy carbon. I contacted the owner to talk to them about it, they did not know too much about them, they just resold them. Get yourself a Phresh (I am currently using the 8x24") or a Can-Lite (used a 6x26). Both of these provide perfect stealth like coverage for well over a year for me :)

It's been 2 weeks (what is time but a flowering number?) and the problem is no longer happening after inversing the filter. I am surprised, and would be elated if not for the new paranoia caused by vegging 21 plants in the Sun. I figure, hey, it's up in the sky, it's free, why not use it?
