computer CPU's vs Heatsink profiles

computer CPU's now ive seen alot using these to cool there cobs,
but obviously most tidy is the profiles form usa,
but there expensive to get in the uk, i dont care how ugly my thing looks the cobs what grows ...

so is a CPU vs a profile whats the difference? is the profile better? or work the same?

hey thats my light at the top! Anyways, it won't matter as long as whatever you are using is keeping the COBs at a reasonable temperature and can dissipate the heat properly. I am actually building a 2nd light for that same tent using heatsinkusa 5.886" profiles but that's only because it will be passive (no fans) and it's easier to assemble.

Haha been looking at it .its amazing
They should cool effectively I like the idea of fans ...passive they don't use any on the profile? Never noticed that

I am a PC nerd I have hundreds of CPU coolers around lol so be daft not to use them if there just as efficient
My friend can box it all out nicely and make it tidy if I work out the tekky side

Delivery to UK is 90bucks lol + cost of profiles almost same as the cob price lol

If I am not mistaken theres a UK site that sells heatsinks that might be similarly priced to the HSUSA for us other side of the water.
Let me see if I can find it

Even the crappiest CPU heatsink+fan will dissipate 60 watts.
They should work fine.

To be clear, lots of people use fans on the large heatsinkusa profiles, it's just that if you use long enough heatsinks, you can dissipate enough heat without any fans.

Ive been using 450 grams of copper CPU coolers with 5v cooling for every 20-25 dissipated watts....very nice sitting at .2 C/W or so.....im sure they would handle 100watts dissapated, so CPU coolers aren't wimps!

Long aluminum heatsinks that can utilize minimal fans for active cooling and still retain "semi-passitivity" even if the fans cut out on you are still the way to go for long term builds, spread, etc etc, imho.....

Any actual evidence the temperature plays a big factor in that? Just a theory? I figure under powering them might help as well.
I dont think anyone has had them long enough or tested for residual lumens after a duration yet, but underpowring can only prolong even further.
I hope they last hella long, because I am not anywhere near rich, and these are a huge investment for me,

Agreed, I would hate to come home to find out my fan psu unplugged or burned out, or a fan died and took cob(s) with it
