Do you guys have the supplies on hand if we just drill the heat sinks ourselves ?
I Like the whole kit being together so i know what driver and cob and heat sink and don't have to try an understand the numbers.



p.s Whats the difference between the 4 cob and the 8 cob kit do the prices include shipping.
Im asking because there is a $50 increase for buying the 8 cob kit where as buying two - 4 cob kits would save money ? Im lost.


P.S.S!! Is it possible to get the kits with a 700 mA driver or will it ever be possible in the future?
the 8 cob kit is slightly cheaper i believe, i got that one. came out to $772 USD shipped

edit: i just looked again, did price go up almost $200 on the 8cob kit? :(
shipping half as cheap to buy 2x4 cob kit vs 8 cob kit
i'm lost too

I noticed that also, must be a typo as the 8 cob unit is more expensive than the 2 X 4 cob unit. Can't believe they sold out already, I should have place the order on Thursday.

Just noticed on my statement, $24 exchange rate fee was added to my purchase so it came out to $806.42, which still isn't bad. But is there any trick to avoid the bank's exchange rate fee? Could you guys offer a bitcoin payment method?

Hi Vegas. Very good points! I ran two of these AC/DEs over 4 x 4 each and got great results. There are some cheaper options I've seen comparable par tests for on their blog (the Digilume I think costs about 250, but then you need an AC). I agree with you wholeheartedly that the DIY cob option is better for the long term. I'm excited to receive my kit... Think I'll try to replicate much of Netherfly's build it looked terrific.

Also thanks for the info on reflector. It seems from others tests with a meter that were linked to my original question these do provide improvement.
@flat9 I would love to see a head-to-head comparison of the AC/DE Boss setup versus the new cob setup, if you can do it. I work in a retail outlet and would love to show the guys how LED stacks up to the best HPS. It's my plan to do once I get the funds. Cheers.

Heatsink supplier provides the HS predrilled, do you want HS not predrilled and tapped?
We can supply with 700ma driver, but then the HS is overspec'd you could use a smaller HS

sorry for my ignorance on this, but how does Bitcoin work, probably a subject to long for this thread, I will look into it

yes but you still need heatsinks in any case

lower the current, more efficient, i.e 350ma would be even more efficient than 700ma. the thing is the softer you run them, the more fixtures you need for a given amount of light, so the equipment cost goes up. 100ma is insanely efficient but youd need 6x the fixtures of a 700ma rig

"best" results are a compromise between efficiency and cost and is typically considered to be in the 700 ma-1400 ma range

Bitcoin can be unstable when trading on the open market, but when used for business the price is pretty stable because many Bitcoin exchange companies (such as Coinbase) will exchange Bitcoin into USD or whatever currency on the spot when received for a minimal fee.

Mark, did price on 8 cob kit go up or is that a typo? because it is now more expensive than buying two, 4 cob kits

I think they are for 50W passive, so 700mA at 72V or 1400 at 36V.

No they are actually out stock of the heatsink and it is around 3 weeks for more. I have ordered 150 pcs of the clear alum units no colour as they have stock but do need to be tapped and drilled, so yes 3 weeks on this, and 1000 pcs of the Black, the clear will be mid april, black early May

UPDATE: The 1k pcs of black will also have the CXB3070 Ideal Holder+adapter footprint Drilled and Tapped to suit wider range of Ledil Reflectors/Beam angles for CXA/CXB3070. The heatsink will offer a bit more thermal capacity on 3070 so will suit a wider range of drive currents, we will be putting up some 3070 kits based on this
