Why the hatred for Autoflower strains?

Gonna be blunt here.
At this point anyone bitching about autos potency, yield or otherwise with basically didn't do their homework or chose a strain that didn't suit them.

There's tons of people that grow them really well @ large yields and great potency.
So when someone bitches bla bla bla my yield sucked, or the potency was shit, what they're basically saying they they're not adaptive enough to grow outside of what they're comfortable growing. aka a lazy or bad grower.

beastly.

Right ..... I always wondered why the best, most experienced growers usually don't have anything to do with autos. Large yields and Great potency all packed together in a shoe box. Wow Wee !!!

So far only Mephisto's autos seem to have a decent potency. I know THC content etc. isn't the only factor when it comes to the quality of the high, but if 21% is the maximum you can get from them... what's the point? Why not grow something that has the potential to be even better?

ps. I've tried plenty of auto strains, from different breeders. Never as potent as other stuff I run.

I've grown a few autos just to see what the hype is about.
Mephisto/Joint Doc/Sweet seeds the only auto that any1 cared for was dark devil and that was only because of the color/taste.

Weak potency + many leaves in buds are the biggest problems with autos.
I did like the taste of dark devil + it's mild strength make it good daytime smoke.
Haven't smoked an auto yet that was as strong as photo-period clone-only elites.

They might be okay for a occasional smoker or people who don't need medicinal type buds.
I have a high tolerance, so others might think they're stronger than I do.

You can't honestly say that Lowrider is quality smoke tho can you? I would love to see some no BS lab results showing the percentage of THC that plant produces.
I think Lord K nailed it "try something new and grow for fun" . They are a novelty and are lapped up by newbies who fall for the marketing.
I was not exaggerating when I said the trim from my regular plants was more potent than any of the autos I grew and smoked.
Ayyo, hol up. My auto flowers are by far the most potent of all stains I've grown or sampled. Even after seeding them they still knocked out everything else in comparison. Only thing stronger is straight hash. I need to update my grow log. I'm so behind. Well, now I'm in the mood for some herbals.

before autoflowers like easy rider and all those came about, autoflowering strains had to be extinguished as they wouldnt clone etc. some people still have that hate.

Old post resurrected here lol. Well I do stand by my assessment of the old autos that I grew back in the day, they were shit.

Now I will eat a little crow.
I have a buddy here on the board that lives close and grows. he ran a Critical jack auto a few months back. Hahaa, I can't even say why it yielded because ANYONE would say Im full of shit (I would say the same if I didn't see it!) lets just say it yielded huge for an indoor plant, it went to full maturity and was grown well. was pretty potent on the tops and nice big nugs. It did seem to vary in potency from limb to limb or maybe the lowers from the upper nice buds. He gifted me a couple jars and it was decent, built up a tolerance pretty quickly, but all in all was good. Much different than the old days.

I have also been smoking blue dream, sugarpunch, Mk Ultrawreck, and Choc Cheese and would not trade any of them for the Jack , so Im still not an auto man, but it was a pretty impressive plant.

>limb to limb

I kind of thought the same thing.

Autos aren't for everyone, but they do fit real will with plenty too. People that say they have tried to grow them and they suck!? I think it's the growers fault, "i did it once and it came out bad" well yeah no shit Sherlock how was your first photo grow. 2lb plants with epic potency?

The saying can't teach an old dog new tricks is based on the same principal, if your not willing to learn or try it then you really shouldn't be preaching the gospel.

I have an older friend, foolish when it comes to this stuff that grew some plants back in the 70's and 80's got a few joints per plant and was happy. When he saw my op he was filled with the dumbest advice. Pots with holes? auto pots lol. I was complaining about watering 25 gallons every 36 hours. He told me to buy regular pots and fill them to the top with water. Fucking idiot. Followed by tons more horrible suggestions and when I told him I was all set with the help he stated he had been growing before I was born so I should listen.

This sort of reminds me of the thick headed people that say autos suck. If you can drop seeds without care or concern of lighting schedules, pull 1/2 lb in 70 days from seed, or even more important fill a room with plants that ARE just as potent than what's the problem? clones here count as plants and anyone here looking to maximize needs to be open to every option.

Auto's are good, my 1st grow was an auto, 3 ounces of 1 plant, seems too be my average
What strai. Was that. I like autos. I just hate I can't get bigger yields. At the end of the day I might ever grow a photo again due to the ease of autos. But I'm wondering if just growing a shit ton of them is better for me. I don't Mind 10 grams a plant when I have 40 plants. But that many can cause so many problems...if I can get 2 zip a plants you wouldn't hear shit from me that's great as long as I can keep the plant growing nice and tight.

Autos have there place for me. Just need a strain that's "beginner" friendly. So for me, the guy who is hitting a wall. What strain or brand do you recommend that wouldn't require a lot of nutes and care. As of now I have fox farm nutes the trio. Soil can be picked up and I will be doing my last run outdoors. I'm in the sf Bay Area so sun will be high until about November...

Nah used my 300 watt CFL for 1st grow, had this LED for nearly 2 years, all leds still working, no problems with the light.
A lot of people are making Mars seem like crap. I know they are not the best lights out there but you have to start somewhere...I've read so much stuff it almost makes me want to seek my lights on Craigslist and fire up the s again. But then all I can think about is those high temps I had..
