will mexican companies absorb the 20% tariff trump puts on their goods?

We could just grow our own avocados domestically, you're ignoring that it would be more profitable.
We do already, it is the state fruit of California, but can't meet demand, so if that fruit cost goes up 20%, no one will buy it, or sell it for that matter because it is simply not worth it. Who's going to pay 4 buck for an avocado?

the shit is coming out of your eyeballs already. calm down.
You're acting like you can't grow avocados in any other part of the world. I bet an African country could grow avocados cheaper than Mexico can and we'd just buy those. It's about balanced trade, not losing 40 billion a year because some transportation magnates are getting subsidies from taxpayers. And who gives a fuck about avacados? We're holding all the cards when it comes to Mexico, their economy has absolutely tanked since Trump won, meanwhile the Dow is hitting 20k. Prices might rise, things might get tough for a minute, but what we have now isn't sustainable. Long-term prosperity over short-term gains.

so you've just abandoned your dreams of AMERICAN avocados already and want to grow them in africa instead?

in the 20 years it takes to go from seed to mature fruiting tree, we will have paid $10 billion extra for our avocados.

You're addressing a mentally deficient Millennial.

Avocados are a massive oversimplification. Sorry, your bougie luxury fruit might cost more, meanwhile manufacturing jobs won't be hemorrhaging across the border. Classic liberals, willing to throw the middle class under the bus for a cheap salad. Avocados are already and have always been way overpriced btw.

anybody else want an avocado after this thread?
Man, I'm really thinking about heading to the store for some. Also a few Mexican grown tomatoes and cilantro, which might come from CA but probably from Mexico this time of year. A few Serranos -- they grow those in Mexico too, don't they? I'll make my own tortilla chips made from Mexican corn masa and fried in grapeseed oil from who knows where.

Sort of a Bye-Bye-Miss American Pie kind tribute to our friends in Mexico.

We are going to miss trade with them as much as they will miss us. I mean, we are only 5% of the world's population but account for 25% of the world's economy. I guess we can shrink our economy to fit our population. But it's kind of going in the wrong direction, isn't it?

Why are we picking a fight with our brothers and sisters in Mexico? Why are we entering a trade war? Why are we building that wall?

"Avocados are way overpriced" Translation: I've lost this argument, so now I'll deflect. Correction you've completely lost it dude. And you were shagged by Trump.

You have no idea what you are talking about regarding the economics of international trade, infant. Simply put, any tariff diverts trade from the current, most efficient, route. Tariffs divert the free market you love so much. So his ego is causing us to lose billions. His ego.

why? cause teh retards that voted trump really think that mexicans are the cause of all our problems. they take our jobs, they send money back to mexico, they vote illegally for hillary. etc. have any of these fucktards looked at produce in any grocery store in December? it's just about all from Mexico cause it's too cold in Iowa to grow anything.
