Is this under or over-feeding?

I just went through this and if you care to have a look at my threads about my experience you will see that by letting my temps rise my roots suffered and died. I actually lowered the EC and ran hydroguard and, most importantly, lowered the temps. The plants recovered and flourished. Is it possible they're underfed? Yes it is but I believe from my experience that his big issue was lack of DO first and for most. This run I'm doing is running at 500ppm at start and by the end of the week 300 and they are thriving. To say that his plants ended up with those roots by underfeeding is not anything I have experienced. Not arguing btw just relaying my experiences dealing with unchilled flooded root systems, which IMO are not going to allow plants to thrive. Try to ignore the color, Don't use myco madness, it turns the water black and the roots lol.

The format of these threads is always the same, and it's been this way going back for years.

1) Noob in DWC asks why his plants are dying.
2) Noob casually mentions he started with plain tap and bumped it up to 100-200ppm in fear of going higher
3) Another noob will suggest he flushes, because that's clearly nute burn!
4) The noob can't tell if he should flush or finally let his plants eat
4) RIP
5) Someone asks noob to take a look at the roots. The roots are dead/dying.. (shocker)

A week later and the plant is still dead. They conclude the plants died because of either

a) water temps not below a certain point
b) didn't use benneficial bacteria
c) didn't sterilize the water

The cycle continues.

I'm not saying the conditions are optimal, but I've been using DWC since the early 00s. I've never monitored or controlled reservoir temperature, never used bennies of any kind, and never sterlized the water. I've even had issues with light hitting the water (roots covered in green)... and the only times I've ever had root rot were due to neglect. (not changing the reservoir often enough or an airpump dying and going unnoticed)

Hopefully I can break the cycle this once!

I didn't think I was underfeeding (since that would've meant basically feeding nothing), so I went up to half strength- 620ish ppm.

I do think, aside from lack of nutes, res temp was also as big or the bigger issue. Temp has been at 67 for a week now.

Luckily, I don't think any bacteria managed to get a hold on the roots before I lowered temps.. plants back on track, but since they're autos, I'm not too optimistic

So water temp is not an important factor in keeping roots healthy? Sure has been for me so I'll just keep chilling my water. And yes the cycle continues at least for me, the cycle seems to work well. Don't you have some COB guys to go bash lol.

I wrote this on another thread confusing this and that thread together, damn weed makes me forget but yer i agree to an extent....




I changed to canna a few weeks ago, watering seedlings everyday and they loved it. I was mucho supprised after reading all the threads where people had overwatered seedlings. Love this coco now and dropped soil for good as am a total convert. It would appear that seedlings germinate best at 0.7ec and above but ive just had the police and landlord in my face about growing weed so i had to start everything again after a quick clean out.

Possibly im coco for life an i am freaking amazed, when i pulled the plants out i literally couldnt believe how stunning the roots were. Churchaze madfe a lot of sense with that 1.0ec to 1.4ec for starts hmmmmmmm....

Well over the years I have tried different levels, different nutes, and yes different temps and I get the most stability and growth with out burn by keeping things on the lower end of the scale but what ever works is my moto. Obviously by the pics it does work for my particular setup and yup by the stretch and beginning of flower I am up to 1.2-4 typically, but I always start low at .4-.5 and get really good growth. As for church not cooling the res, not sure if he mention the temps he's running, I have heard of it being done and not being an issue but as soon as my water gets above 70 things start to suffer. I wish I didn't have to chill the water because it can be an expensive project, as I build a new chiller lol.
