Flushing Vs Not Flushing

Hi,

I tend to agree with the Idea that flushing is a Myth.
But then after flushing i can taste the bud is smoother and seems to have better flavour.

My unflushed bud does taste harsh and gives more throat hit.

Anyone care to share some Knowledge?

Hey there.

First of all, know that flushing hurts/shocks the plants so do if necessary only (salt build up in medium, nute toxicity etc) or if you been using chemically engineered soluble crystal like nutes.
On a second note, flushing close to harvest will definitely get rid of excess nutes as well as give the plant time to use what she has in stock without adding more...less nute buildup in buds will reap a better smoke.

What nute you using?

I run organic nutes only, slow release of everything so no salt buildup etc and no need to flush. I use soil as medium.

Hi,

I run chemical nutes and its in Coco Coir + Perlite.
I flushed today and the PPM was like 900 at first.
I flushed until the runoff PPM came out at 120ish
Flush only with PH water as well.

The plant looks quite ready.

Looks like it could go a few weeks longer to me. Dont shortchange youself, keep feeding.

Best reason for flushing is to remove excess chlorophyll before harvesting. Having more present, after harvesting, than can be broken down during the cure, will leave buds harsh and less flavorful. This is the why you should flush. Even organic growers!

Too many nutes ruin flavor.......just don't overfeed in the 1st place.
I agree with this. If your not overfeeding them you shouldn’t have to flush. If your drying correctly the smoke shouldn’t be harsh. Tapering the feed if your down to about 200 ppm for the last two weeks is the best method. @NinjaMaster your plants have several weeks To go and your effectively starving them at this point hurting your end yield and flavor.

Not his again..

Taper off your nutrient. Flushing doesn't happen overnight, but over a course of days to a week..

if your feeding excessively - flush
want to avoid flushing - feed less

the way i look at it is why feed heavy unconsistantly to the point it will require flushes when you can feed less and more often. its like eating. would you gorge yourself in 1 day and feel satisfied the next day not eating anything at all? there was some chart where growers were measuring something by doing this not sure what they were measuring though i think it was PPM. 1 grow they fed light but more often the other grow was your typical heavy feeding with watering after. i think the charts were showing the PPM's fluctuating heavily throughout the grows.

im testing this out myself with this current grow by feeding less 1/8th my base nutes for now but often. so far im getting amazing growth for my skills every single day. before i water feed water some days i go and i dont see anything new. idk if this is true it's just something i read and am testing for my self

Personally i never flush., i water only for the last 7 days before chop. Property drying and curing its the key. Flush toilets not plants

When running bottled nutes to the end sometimes the end product isn't as pleasant vs a final week of plain water. You can even try two weeks or more if you like to give them time to finish 70-80+ days for most things for a proper finish

Make sure they are plenty done and swollen about a week or so out from when you'd want to chop. Distilled water has another effect but do your own work and come to your own conclusions because nobody will be able to tell you what you prefer but you.

you can't remove whats been absorbed and it doesn't get "used up" and shit out. Yellow/red/purple leaves are the plant moving mobile nutrients where they're needed. All you're doing is shuffling nutrients from old leaves into the buds not removing it. Don't assume if you dump a dozen bottles of the newest bud blasting super elixir into your plant you're not consuming it. Your plants and your health will be better off. Bad tasting weed comes from bad growers peroid.

Scientifically talking it is not possible to remove or flush nutrients from a plant by dumping gallons of water. Please don't spread myths. Only thing u can do its water only for the last 2 weeks to let the plant use the nutrients already stored. But there is no way to flush nutrients from a plant once absorbed.

We first need to define what you mean by "flushing" if ur definition is dumping a bunch of gallons of water then ur completely wrong., but if your definition of flushing is applying plain water for the last 1 or 2 weeks then thats the correct term. Flush = water only last 1 or 2 weeks or until plant fades.

Flushing will clean the soil, removing excessive nute buildup.

what Flushing can not do is remove the damage (bad tasting weed) that overfeeding has done to your plants, the nutes were already absorbed and used, they reside in the plants tissue. Your weed will always taste better using a minimum of nutes ( to keep them vigorous and healthy) Keep them as natural as possible

Do you want mids or medical grade? Your choice.

Interesting - Ill try that on my next grow after upcoming harvest in 10 days.

Agree, flushing clears the soil of excessive salt buildup, not the plant!

Also agree with only plain water in the final phase - I normally go 10 days plain phed water, which is about 3 waterings depending if i am growing in summer or winter.

yea currently i am not flushing but i am feeding lightly. started first dose 1/4th plants took it fine decided to half it to 1/8th due to plants current size and estimating 1/4th is too much for them but i will be feeding every watering. so far plants are doing great. best grow i've gotten thus far only current issue i am dealing with is slight heat stress.

im trying right now on my strawberry cough so far no signs of over watering and plantings are growing extremely well with a lower feed schedule. i have my blue widows flowering that im going to be flushing soon probably.
