Sexing at germination

the more I read the more I see it may have to do with genes and conditions during week 2 and 3....so low temps during those times and proper humidity seems to be the trick for those that think they can make sure a plant turns out female. i dunno...I am actually more back and forth than anything...none of the material I have read said shit about taproots so...I dunno...I will figure it out though....and here is another question...there are a lot of really dumb stoners out there....some grow weed even...so is this kind of tail possibly passed down by some retard farmer who happened to have feminized seeds? who the hell knows. I still think the experiment is worth my time though. :blsmoke:
so for now...whatever

Hi, Just subscribing and throwing in my two cent.

The guy at Nirvana told me plant sex is decided by the growing conditions and the gentics of the mother plant not the growing condtions of the seedlings.

While I am very scepticle of this idea, I don't see why it couldn't be true. Plants show signs of sex long befor flowering. Why not at the seedling stage.

I will of course conduct an experament once I get the chance.
Search Google for 'epigenetics'. It's a pretty revolutionary finding, and is documented in humans and mice, maybe even other animals. I have not looked to see if it's documented in any plant species.

Will do.

I love the way you gave no hint as to what it is about, knowing that my burning curiosity will drive me to search strait away.

Sneaky.

my uncle told me somthing like this also ,, he was a very experienced grower.. so he tells me , that when breeding plants to create a hybrid strain,, after u pollinate the females with the male pollen you use *gibberelic acid spray*,, you spray this stuff on a small paint brush & wipe it all over the pollenized pistols of the female ,, which will result in all feminized seeds .. guess what , it works . iv tried it 3 times & it worked every time with every single seed ... also ,, i think this is how all these places gaurentee feminized seeds ,,

very interesting...you have had success with this 3 times you say...have you planted all of the feminized seeds yet to see if they were true fem seed?

All females and you can't breed. But, how can you dangle such a prospect and not tell us where to buy this stuff? Wholly kauw!

giberillic acid is used to make a branch produce hermaphrodite flowers. a clone from the same strain (or same plant, not ideal) is then pollinated by the herm flowers.

the result is mom and dad are both female, and the result is higher female ratio.

it's been said by many, and i think it's pretty much dead on; sex in seedlings is determined during week three. so, week two and three are going to be the most important as far as influencing sex. hope this helps.

such cute little sproutlings...so which were curled over and which weren't? I see the numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4, but do you have any other labels to tell which are which?

if you look a little further back...you can see pics of when I started it. they were all four curled...so if I get any males then it's busted...but I think it depends more on life in the second and third week...conditions is what I mean...good light and temps and always fresh air :blsmoke:

aww, you should have tried to plant one or two straight shooted seedlings too so that you could see if it turned out female or what happened.

I still think this is an interesting experiment nonetheless though. Conditions are important of course though! hehe. I don't think bad conditions can actually make a plant male though...I'm pretty sure thats in it's genes. but the plants could still turn hermie on you if you don't take care of them. either way this experiment should produce some good bud. :blsmoke:

I couldn't find a camera when I was germinating those mendo purp seeds I bought.

One in a indoor hydroponics system and the other 11 are outdoors, two each in seperate locations and one died.

all of them but three curled, one of the straight rooted ones died, the other two are left togeather, I'll get some updates and maybe some pictures if my camera isn't totally broken.

Oh, yeah! I did it too, but forgot to transfer my markings when I transplanted. However, by sheer numbers alone, I, too, busted this myth.
