Indoor No-Till Beds and Plant Counts

Greetings ladies and gents. Something that has been on my mind a lot lately has been plant counts. For this discussion, let’s assume that we are talking about plants per 4x4 living soil bed. The plant counts for the medical program in my state force me to usually run between 6-9 plants per 4x4. This requires a slightly longer veg time to fill the canopy before flipping.

I know that the general consensus amongst growers here is that bigger roots yield bigger fruits. A few months back I dove into the toxic side of the cannabis community and joined Instagram to follow some growers, large and small scale, to see how everyone else is doing things. Recently I found a guy that plants 32 seedlings in a 4x4 for pheno hunting purposes. I asked them to comment on yield and cola size/stacking out of curiosity, but never got a response.

Does anyone here have any experience running a large amount of clones, transplanted from solo cups, in a 4x4 living soil grid SOG set up? They would all be the same strain for a uniform canopy as I am growing under an 8 bar LED fixture, which is the exact dimensions of the bed and has a uniform light footprint across the canopy. If so, how were the yields? I know it’s very easy to do in the salt world, and still get massive yields, but I prefer to run happy plants with minimal stress - that’s why I’m here and not running poison.

Curious how are you going to stay in your plant count with sea of green ?
When I ran one I used Beer cups with the same clone and filled the space
Plant counts were not a concern as I was illegal either way
I yielded approx. 1/4 ounce on each
Maybe you want SCROG?

The reason I’m asking here is because I can’t experiment with it first hand, but I’m curious. I would run above my plant count, but my wife has a lower risk tolerance than I do with regards to Jonny Law. The grow I built in my garage is a scalable grow which is meant to be a learning project. My wife and I aspire to open a small mom and pop rec grow in a year or two, with a focus on connoisseur quality flower. Once we go rec, plant counts mean nothing and it’s all measured in canopy square footage.

1/4 oz per plant doesn’t tell me much about yields. I’m looking for comparative yield numbers per 4x4 / light, the way it’s measured in larger scale set ups. This is also assuming that you’re running a leading edge tech fixture - whether it’s quantum LED, CMH, or DE HPS. My ideal person answering this query would have experience running the same genetics with different plant counts.

I thought the math was easy but I'll let someone else answer
For me if I am running a SOG and a guy says he can get a 1/4 out of each beer cup , I would fill that space with beer cups to determine my yield

Sorry, I’m not following. Did you flower in the solo cups or transplant from the solo cups into beds?

Thanks for the clarification. Apparently you missed the title of the thread that says living soil beds, and the subsequent post that also talks about transplanting from cups into beds. When you flower in a solo cup, I’m pretty sure you need to feed nutes to sustain the plant through 9 weeks of flower. This is essentially not much different than flowering in rock wool cubes or coco. When you feed nutes, you don’t need as big of a root mass for large yields - hence why you see some of the large scale hydro growers growing 8 foot tall plants in a 3 gallon or smaller container of coco. Not sure why I have to explain this to a “well known member” inside of an “Organics” sub forum. You’re rather dense, aren’t you? If you can’t contribute relevant info to the topic at hand, bugger off.

The “other guy” in question is the social media account of a large scale LED living soil cultivation operation in Nevada. There are many reasons why this individual probably didn’t answer my query, and I doubt any of them have to do with what you’re insinuating. The only reason I got snippy with you is because you were being a dick. Happy Sunday bud.
