How tf do you decide strains?

Fucking “ boutique “ strains ....

Purple Godzilla Ass Breath
Alien Ass Crack ...... or whatever.

Pretty much taking a common strain like Sour D / BD /Jack Herer and slapping a new stupid name on it.
Plus most offerings are F1 which STILL needs hunting. Many of you can attest to “ breeder packs “ all running various
sizes , structures different from each other.

Yeah I just want some good skunk weed lol, I don't wanna miss out on better stuff because I don't feel like sorting through all the hype and the huge variety of options available though.

The best way to get some great cuts is to make friends with as many good growers as you can.
Eh anxiety issues, I've never been great at making friends lol... Im starting to think maybe I should just buy 20 seeds of one strain, keep all the females in veg and clone em all flower the clones and just keep the ones that are by far the best in veg to clone from. It might be fun to breed some myself never done that before.

I know a few hobby growers but no one that's big time

thats basically my plan. switching back to soil so I can try a few beans from each strain to find a keeper. Once I have that nailed down then it'll probably be winter again and I can fire the flower room back up.

This is definitely the right approach if you're popping seeds!

I keep the clones and flower the original plants myself but you can do it either way. Not sure if one is better than the other.

Lol anyone saying $160 is crazy expensive for a clone has apparently never grown an ELITE cut.
Say you want a chem cookies so u buy 2 packs of seeds hoping to find a killer pheno @$50/pk (not sure how much mamikonseeds go for but nice easy #) you can grow em all and possibly find a pheno w huge yields and pushing 35%thc. OR you could just buy the GMO cut for $200 and be done with it.

People pay thousands for certain cuts.

That's actually the intention for a lot of seed lines. Pop a full pack. Get a variety of excellent phenos. Select and save your winning clones. Have something unique. That's the concept for most Bodhi fans. I'm not a commercial grower. This is where I am.

Other lines... Pop ten seeds...get ten very similar plants, reliably, everytime. Grow the same good weed that the guy down the block grows (he bought those seeds too.)

Or...skip the scenic route, take the interstate, and drop some coin/shmooze a friend for an elite cut.

I keep going on and on here but I like this topic. I think it's very important... particularly for newbies.

if other breeders are using a bunch of strains of another breeder doesn't that just make them hacks?

I have bought several strains in the past from europe just going by what I have heard of. Currently I'm just growing critical kush which has been a good strain but everyone keeps hyping that american strains are somehow better in every way and I want to try some have looked at some american seed banks but damn they all have crazy names and there's so many choices it seems impossible to choose. It seems like a lot of these seeds are incredibly expensive although I cannot remember what I paid for the seeds I currently have, am growing and have grown from.

So many choices of crazy names my head spins, how do you decide?
Depends on what you smoke for, medicinal or recreational. Also depends on what kind of effect you're looking for.

Thank you everyone for sharing your information and experience

This is an important discussions as the market is overcrowded with the newest and best seeds(according to breeder)

I’ve often scratched my head about this

If you could get certified clones then thats the best way to get a keeper strain. Otherwise research and pic your breeders. I would stay US based because of customs and being able to reach the breeders directly and get some sort of decent quality and customer service if you need it. Also the fact that you have forums and social media to back it up and also to reach the breeders directly.

I don't know if those pineapple pheno's you are talking about are related to the barney farms pineapple chunk or not but I've grown that before and really liked it myself.
Pine Apple Chunk and C99 are different animals in the weed strain sense.

They're distantly related, (same species), but you and I are related too in the species way, cousin.
