Are the more expensive seeds worth it?

Seed prices are set by supply/demand like everything else. You can grow decent bud with cheap seeds; higher prices do not always represent higher quality. You have no idea how long the seeds has been sitting in a shelf. They lose vigor and become harder to germinate after awhile. The seed banks that tend to sell fresher beans also tend to charge a bit more for their shit; go figure. Here’s a few tips for selecting what to get:
Avoid any seeds on a “hot” or “most popular” list. Find strains you like or have tried before from a reputable breeder and consider ordering regular seeds. Breeders with a well known reputation like Bodhi or TGA can charge more for their gear; that is how capitalism works. So what you do is buy a 10 pack; pop them all off and select a male for pollination. Yes it kills the yield for a single run but then you got free beans for years.
Every first run of a strain I haven't grown before I have seed production in mind. I've been doing it for years. Now I have vials of seeds of strains I bought a 5 pack of. Plus dozens of crosses as good or better than some of the stuff people are paying $20 a seed for.

It's kind of risky with just a 5 pack and a ten pack is better if you want to guarantee both males and female. So far I've been lucky with the 5 packs I've had for some strains and have gotten both. Sometimes 4 female or 4 males but all you need is one of each. I basically grow landraces or IBL's regulars. I make my own crosses and like starting from scratch or stabilized genetics. Landraces can be all over the map but IBL's typically provide something you have an good idea about. ACE has some good stuff and has been the starting point for some of the things I'm playing around with.

As for actual landraces. I've grown some stuff from The Real Seed Company and the Mazar I Sharif was all over the map. I had one plant that smelled like mint. I'm not joking. It smelled like spearmint. Strongly. Fortunately I pollinated it with this odd looking male and got a bunch of seeds. Plants were all over the map which is what I was hoping for and expected with seeds from plants growing in as wild conditions as is possible today.

Genetics are being lost all over the world as areas that have traditionally grown what was local are now planting imported hybrids to increase yield and THC content. In the process genetics are being diluted and in some cases are going extinct. I'm trying to keep as many as I can before it's all just some hybrid orgy with none of the under appreciated original genetics even being remembered.

It won't be long before anything without the word cookies or pineapple in the name means crappy weed. Give me an authentic 1970's 80"s Thai, Acapulco Gold, Columbian Red, Jamaican, Hawaiian and I'll be happy.

Thanks everyone! I only grow for personal use and the fun of it plus it cuts out having to deal with dealers so I don't spend a lot on seeds anyway in comparison to the amount ill save by not buying street weedbongsmilie The last seeds I bought I just done a pick n mix and got 5 individuals all between £5-10 a seed. What I want to know is it worth paying around £15 a seed for the likes of in house genetics? £15 isn't much I know but can only find 10 packs so talking £100+ a pack. What I don't mind if the flavour is better than the cheaper seeds. Also are they going to be easier or harder to grow or just the same as your average strains? I'm currently growing American pie what's white widow x power plant, 2 strains that was about when I was growing up but never hear about anymore, I'm excited!

That's cheap. I've just ordered 3 auto critical orange punch seeds. Think that has the kritcal Bilbo in. Could be wrong but supposed to be a good yielder for an auto.
I've got 2 Critical Orange Punch photo flowering in my tent at the moment.
I'm lucky to get 1 oz from an auto.

U can buy a 10 pack of barneys farm for 90-100$
Or a 12 pack of Top notch seeds for 150-160$
A dollar or 2 more for a seed I’ll take the true genetics any day of the week
Seriously dude have you even grown anything from Barney's Farm???

I'm currently doing their pineapple express#2. It's in flowering and basically is a rock hard skunk like plant, which absolutely wreaks of pineapple. Plus she is the fastest of 6 strains I'm growing.

Putting down Dutch breeders and thinking the USA is the dogs testicles at everything. lol

The USA makes me laugh. Look at the % of obese children and obese adults. The diet caused diseased ridden fast food addicts of the USA. The people of Walmart... Your chlorinated chicken you want to send to the UK.

Your 4 legged kfc freak chickens! Know you love your hybrids 'n' all in the US!

Yet the USA still thinks their country is the best in the world at everything, yet all the people outside the US know that's total horse shit!

Seriously arrogant as fuck of you to put down old school breeders like Barney's Farm.

Try their auto version of pineapple express. It's a truely stunning plant with an amazing high.

Seriously though there is nothing wrong with Dutch genetics and I also like Spanish genetics. Sweet seeds. Also Dinafem.

1oz from an auto? Yikes. Sounds like you’re not doing something right.

The beautiful lady of the grow room, pics taken 5 mins ago. 5 weeks into 12/12. Coco. 3 gallon square pot.

Here she is... Not bad for Barney's Farm mediocre genetics.

Simply every time my I open this 3x3 tent and see this stunning girl I just smile, but then smell her and she wreaks 60% of Blueberry and 40% cheese. She just makes me smile and that's why we do this ey? I'm taking pre orders on this bitch!

Didn't mean to have such a heavy dig at the USA's obesity pandemic and all that in my last post. lol Just got a bit of an English sense of humour and I will also always back Dutch genetics. Not like me to get political. lol

2 seeds from the same packet, germinated at the same time, one is a bit weak and sickly, the other is massive and healthy.
Both in the same tent, same light, feeds and watering, only difference was the seed.

That is called different phenotypes.

Just like human brothers and sisters don’t typically look identical neither do the plants.

You've never driven through kentucky then ......
Lol yeah never know what you’ll see down there.
It’s funny you mention that though. Just last week I was using the example of inbred cousins to explain why I don’t particularly care for Selfed or feminized seeds. Sure some might turn out fine, but the odds of bad genetic combos get worse every-time more cousins fuck.
