Anyone with air cooled hid?

I have an air cooled 600w hood. Pic below Right now the ballast is on 600 and I have a mh bulb in. What I'm struggling with is light height. Right now it's at 18". I can stick my hand inches under the glass and not have to move it. 6" fan is pushing room air thru hood exiting chimney.. I am growing 4 auto in a 4x4x6.5 . Anyone have experience with a hood like this and what height should i run in veg and flower. Thanks

For seedlings that young I would raise the light up to around 30 - 36 inches. Once they are growing true fan leaves you can get the light back to the distance you have it now.
Ok. I will go to 30" . This is a pic from today day 6 of one doing decent.

I have a short tent and found that even with my air-cooled hood, and only 400W HPS, I was still running into heat (and light burn) problems in a small zone directly under the light. This wasn't too far off 18", so keep an eye out as seedlings can die fast if you get it wrong. Also make sure your hand is centred right under the bulb when you test as those reflectors create a hotspot.

Bending the reflector so it was less curved helped me, as did using a yoyo to pull the main cola away from that central hotspot, which also lowered it (a little).

Be honest I havent even looked at the reflector inside. I also saw on some literature that the mh bulb that came with the light is 45,000L. I happen to have another that is 60,000.. is there a big difference between these?

If you feel its to intense or hot try a light sheild they work fine.

For seedlings that size why not a 250w?

Are the two mh?
Hps have a higher output in lumens but not necessarily in the usable light spectrum.
