400w hps on a surge strip

If it doesn't work it will pop the breaker. Most strips have 5 amp breakers.

Amps = watts/voltage

400 watts divided by 120 volts equals 3.33 amps

So you should be alright.

sorry i know nothing about this subject. so for a 600w hps, its still 120 v right? thats exactly 5 amps. will it work or would it be too iffy?

I am not expert but I do know that your only supposed to use 80% of the rated amount! LIke you said 600w hps is right at 5 amps give or take (because you didn't figure in something called ohm resistance) anyways you are using 100% of the rated breaker on that strip get something that has at least 16 gauge wire. I would go with 14 gauge, better safe than sorry. Also you can add a fan or two (or something else electric) and not worry too!

You'll have to see what your strip is rated but if it has a 5 amp breaker and you are pulling 5 amps, the breaker will pop everytime you turn the light on. Therefore it will not work. 80% is a good rule of thumb as mentioned.

Also, why not just run straight to the outlet with no power strip ?

Outlets have 2 receptacles, run one straight to the light and use the second one for the power strip for the things that use less current.

Also are you in the united states or europe ? Europe is 230 volts, so for 600 watts you would be pulling 2.6 amps.

yeah im sure i will just plug it into the wall, but i havent gotten the hps yet so i was just curious about it. im in the u.s. thanks for all the info guys
 
does each strip have there own breaker say i connect 3 together can i put 4 amps wort of lights on each one????
 
U can put however many i have 2 different ones in my room

one has all my pc shit

monitor
printer
phone charger
pc case at 300watt dont know what that equals

then i have

a vanity fixture
150 hps
exhust
2 air pumps
timer

that seems like alot so u should be fine my room hasnt blew up yet yay
 
man they sell 15 amp power strips... and most of the breakers in home or apartment are from 15 to 35 amps the numbers are on the switches... and get a 600 watt hps...
