Have 3590s Improved?

I've had 18-3590s working for 5 years and I'm just wondering if anybody knows if CREE has improved them. I'm thinking about replacing the COBs but would like to continue to use the same heat sinks, frames and hopefully drivers. If they haven't improved them dramatically I'll just run what I have until they won't run no more.

Improved or not I am sure the old chips are putting out less now than they used to. It is known that the surface of the chip reacts with compounds in the air unless sealed behind a lens, so if you don't have a lens protecting the chip it is likely there is greater degradation of output. Is it worth the price of new chips? Probably not at this point unless you have noticeable / measurable differences.

Yep Renfro. The horns of the dilemma. They chips have no lenses protecting them so they have certainly suffered from some degradation. I could put a light meter on them to determine their current state but I don't have a baseline of their output when they were new. I could bear the brunt of upgrading the chips although they are not giving them away. They say if it's not broken don't fix it and new beans are on the way so I'll put a light meter on the COBs now and when the run is done just to get empirically measurable results. I think you answered my question. If the results are still acceptable why do anything accept enjoy the grow. Rock on budski!. I don't recollect the name of the song but it was the band Fleetwood Mac. It went something like "don't ask me what I think of you if you don't get the answer that you want me too.

Thanks bud. Technically challenged old guy. Keg parties, brick weed, cross roads, Blotter, ludes and drunk driving. Left half my memory back in the 70s. Those were the days

Good to know I won't have to replace my 3590s for a long while yet!
I see CBX3590s advertised but what I don't know if the designation CBX is an upgrade on the 3590s or if it's always been that way. Sometimes I get so confused.

Hmm I think they are the same tech, a lot of people have moved in to boards to I dont know how much demand there has been for an increase in cob tech. I could be wrong though.

I’m running the same Cobs, have since beginning.
Also run a 4 panel Quantum setup. 304’s?
Both run great and suit my needs.
A third space with 600 HPS
I will say, each room’s light system has its unique Ending and you see definite side by side differences
Fun to play
