i seriously can't believe that noone has anything to say about this.

like the title says..this is just the start.

i just want to know how much longer the bitch will be, and on what, when this is complete.

Always a touchy subject. In this case, it's great that it came from a private party. I think that's the only way true reparations can ever be made, is through privatized efforts, because the same gov't laws that attempted to put an end to unfairness, also handicap any efforts of restitution. It's up to all of us to get creative to help people that were heavily restricted in terms of employment and education....unless you're RobRoy, then fuck 'em.

WoW...i'm surprised......
i have a feeling they're going to trace slaver families through dna and send them a bill for their portion..should be easy to figure who had cropdusters to throw dynamite out of in Tulsa. these families are generational. lots of pics were taken back then of white women screaming the same hate as their men. Southerners <spit> easy ID.

reparations.
The belief that someone over a hundred years removed from the actual event should in some way be seen as responsible for what happened? There are plenty of better things than the past to take advantage of. Why continue to call foul when the foul can’t be solved or healed by people who had nothing to do with it? (Maybe the limits and walls they are hitting are self created) we limit ourselves by carrying a grudge that isn’t our own. ✌

the tulsa one yes i can see repurations for them, that should have never happenen, and from what i hear they are trying to strike from the history books in Okey........in fact they are trying to strike alot of history out the books.....if they're going for DNA and such better start from LA and move east and north at all those cotton mills and factories......Texas technically was a slave state in fact once you crossed into Texas most people who were considered slaves were free....you just had one thing to fight as it were....and that was the native americans...

Because the people that have benefitted seem to have really short memories and the people that have not, don't. It's really nice to be on the dismissive end of things, but things might seem a bit different from the other perspective.

We are Irish. And slavery was a part of life for my ancestors as well. And I can tell you, Irish still have a “stereotype “. Difference... I would never give someone the power to make me feel enslaved. If someone chooses to feel abused even though they’ve had it no worse than any other, that’s ridiculous... if your child acted that way you would correct them. So why is this a theme at all? (Think about it) it’s easier to control a divided population. If you think small you will never see beyond yourself.

What do you mean by them being complete though?

I would like to at least see them started with all of our kids to be able to get the same start in life as any other child in our country. The way we systematically kept our minority communities in open air prisons for decades is not something that can be a quick fix.

I think you are mistaking 'tax payers' with 'people who had nothing to do with it'.

Tax payers are not a race, and it was our nation that severely and repeatedly hammered our minority communities. This is not some self limit. This is keeping our minority communities in about 170 miles with thousands of police deployed to keep them out of the suburbs until the melanin-lite people all got theirs. Then when they had to stop the actual racist legislation aimed to keep they fell back on racist lending/sales practices and police harassment.

This is not something that is just fixed because it happened a 'long' time ago.

You do know that (assuming "Detroit" in your name isn't just some troll, welcome to the site, we will get back to that later hopefully if you stick around. The trolling gets intense so if you are not a troll, remember you have a ignore feature) the suburbs around Detroit actively stopped melanin-abundent people from moving into them well into my childhood.

That is not just pretending like there is some small thinking. It is reality.

do you think reparations will ever happen? do you think the process of reparations will complete itself- make everyone whole?

You're completely misunderstanding the issue, imo. This isn't about hurt feelings, it's about the rates of cultural development and advancement. If you have two neighboring families living their lives through various generations, saaaay from 1820, to today, looking at just over 200 years. One family "A" was held back to shit jobs and shit education, technically until the 1960's, but realistically for much longer than that. Then you have another family "B" that thrived generation after generation building education and wealth. Statistically speaking, it's technically possible for both families to appear the same today, but what do you think the odds are that one of those families is significantly behind the other?

I don't really know what people mean when they use 'reparations' enough to put much thought into it, so I really don't know.

I do think that building world class schools in all of our high population areas that have (shit start from bottom up numerically) not invested in the school/kids in those areas is how we should start them though.

I would also love to see them with actual (non-Canadian horror story) rooms/dorms for kids whose parents are willing to let them stay on campus while in classes. We should be able to house and educate all of our kids to give them the access to everything that they need to be as successful in life as possible.

I would love to see us start there. I think you need a strong foundation, and our future generations are the ones that have the ability to not have been screwed up by the past.

And not just how, but who. It's the same legislative floodgate that allowed unfairness, that you'd need to open in order to correct unfairness. With republicans around, we can't allow that to happen. World of unintended consequences and all that.

The same exact things were done to the Irish. It was just long before America. And again... we still have to deal with prejudice. No we weren’t given reparations either. And we have moved on as a people. Just sayin..... it will never leave till people stop keeping it alive. And tbh we all know reparations won’t happen cuz it would ruin the richest families in the country. (Ya the ones who are in power). Cmon people wake up fuck reparations! How bout give us real freedom.

Which is why voting matters so much right now in any state that the Republicans are not changing the rules so that their voters don't matter (if they can pull it off and the Republican voters don't slap them down in favor of 'owning the libs').

Things like Reparations are ink blot tests to get people riled up is my opinion about them. And yes if people like the survivors of the Tulsa massacre are struggling, America needs to step up and help those people out immediately. Trump's skimming tens of thousands in his secret service room rental scam, we can set these folks up to live the rest of their years in some comfort.

Right, and America is the government that should have protected these American citizens.

That is why it is on the American tax payers to do what we can to repair the damage we have done to huge portions of our society. We won't be able to function at 100% until we do.
