Oklahoma Growers Thread!

What was the shitshow? Do you have a link, or can you tell the story?
Yeah so as I understand the story is during the awards ceremony for the Cowboy Cup sun grown and greenhouse entries some lady from Gangier (the company that produced and was responsible for the judging panel?) walked up on the stage and announced that almost all off the entries had been disqualified based on a visual inspection (mold etc) by the judging panel except one entry that had been submitted by a farm that employed said Ganjier company as consultants. All entries had been OK lab passed prior. Apparently the lady was pretty disparaging saying OK growers didn't know wtf they were doing and they needed to hire her company to get straightened out.

There is more and if you want rot take a closer look http://instagr.am/p/ClzeQ-hoanO/ .

A little research on my part found that this Ganjier company is a bunch of CA OG types that have banded to gather to offer a weed "sommelier" certification and consulting services.

And weed competitions have always been political biased.

And maybe the "old fucks" from CA should mind their own business and the new guard shouldn't be subject to the old guard.

There is a lot more to unpack should one want to take a deeper dive and here is a link to Brandon Rusts IG live stream discussing.

If the link doesn't work I'm sure you can hunt it up.

Damn. That is funny. There won't be any old guard/new guard. Just regional drug lords vying for control of dwindling resources. Let the elitists sniff farts.
The beardy guy in that discussion is running a scam. he runs a mold remediation business. The only point he has is about the testing not being blind, random samples taken by the lab employees from the entire batch. But that isn't how it works anywhere.
If every sample had problems, it would be more likely that they were all contaminated after they were together than when they were still separate. Which is storage not growing and drying.
Always got to be about using another human to grab a dollar bill. Don't chase the hype. Just grow your own, share with others, spread your best cuts and seeds far and wide. We are all here together right now.

I wasn't at the awards show, but I was a judge for the outdoor, and I agree that it sounds like a storage issue. I was also a judge the first year and the outdoor was better, at least the top entries. I'm an old guy just wanting to see how other outdoor growers fared this year, and I got no skin in the game, but outdoor growing is my passion. I also hung out with the Ganjiers, more so the second day and I gave them 5 samples of my outdoor to evauluate and I learned a few things. There were also things they said I disagreed with, in the moment. I'm sure sommeliers were ridiculed in the beginning, as all "critics" are, people think they are just making money off the labor of somebody else. Everybody thinks the weed they grow is the best, me included! We are all here together right now! And lets figure out better ways to judge these things!

Let me just add, every single sample I tried was good weed, that would have been the best around , for 90% of the 46 years I have been smoking! Our job as the judges was to pick the best ones, and it is always tough! Also, why anybody would grow commercial outdoor for the flower market in Oklahoma, is beyond me, even when the market wasn't crap, like it is now. Most people buy on appearance and it is damn hard to compete with indoor in that respect.

Was the presence of mold actually confirmed by any other judges that were not representatives of Gangier Co?

I don't know. I didn't see any or taste any, but I didn't break buds apart and use a digital microscope to look for it. If I had been trained how to do that I would have. I won't be judging again because, 1, I'm old and tired and don't need more drama in my life, and 2, I've realized that when we are evauluating cannabis as medicine, there is a lot more that goes into it than which bud is my favorite smoke. Which is why there is mandatory state testing, ect.
