If you read what a member of the chat group that Teixeira led, said about what happened and how it happened, I've got no sympathy for the man. He had a conspiracy theory based on "bad USA" and was trying to influence the people in that group to accept his ideology without question. That he got mad when some people showed more interest in virtual weapons and video games indicates to me he's a wannabe cult leader without a clue to build a following. I'd prefer the bad government he hates shows just how bad they can be to traitors.

Read the article I posted on the war thread about narcissism by Tom Nichols. Young and stupid is the only reason to cut him any slack. It could be similar to Reality Winner or other such cases, in terms of sentencing but the damage this guy did was immense and that is an aggravating factor.

The media and pundits have noticed and if I can find a TV link or two, I'll post it. It is now a counterintelligence investigation and might be for a while before much comes out, other than court stuff, we won't know much about the case itself. It will highlight equality under the law and is like an elephant in the room, happening on parallel tracks in the justice system. The crimes are remarkable similar, one committed by someone at the very bottom of the federal government and another more serious crime by the commander and chief of the military at the apex of government.

“The focus shifts” means the general media focus. That is something that deserves substantiation from say WaPo or MSNBC. My worry is that this is a grandiose and somewhat cantilevered way of overstating “My opinion shifts”. Rescue me from that sour and ungenerous suspicion.
Alas the world and the people in it are imperfect, nor are humans completely consistent in what they do, as is their right as humans. The shift in focus I spoke of was mentioned by pundits on TV and should come more into play when there is some action on Trump's documents case as this one works its way through the justice machine on a parallel course. As I stated, this is illustrative of equality under the law and a long-standing issue as far as Trump is concerned, he was at the very top and this guy was at the very bottom of the government and will be a yardstick for justice when they finally do bust Trump's ass for the MAR shit. Hence the focus will develop with the cases.

It is opinion and opinion makers we are talking about here, the media does not cover nonevents and when events happen, they are there with opinion and that opinion on Trumps documents case will include the fate of this air force cypher. It's a no brainer.
Dunno, too much damage done and too many eyes on the case, we will see what he says under FBI counterintelligence interrogation, that pretty uniform comes with some civil liberties drawbacks and military justice.
