Pix That Make You LOL-Warning-SNWS

The foundation of Qualitative Spectographic Analysis (QSA) , in case you were wondering. That magnesium will burn the eyes, right out of your head
if observed while burning. I know for some time, maybe still, it was used in combat. Blah-blah.......wasted again.
Artillery and tanks had white phosphorus (Willie Pete) will burn but the primary use was for smoke/marking rounds. Magnesium is really unstable.

Further upthread was a comment about green tipped rounds. Ours were red tipped. "green garbage cans" were Soviet rounds.

I went through "advanced firefighting training" in Japan when I was in the navy in 1976, part of the course involved how to deal with "specialized metals" fires, magnesium being one of them.

The instructor lit a hunk of magnesium with a torch and got it burning- it was a slice of a Halibrand mag wheel, he grabbed it with a pair of long tongs and threw it in a green dumpster, then a suitably situated overhead water hose sprayed it with water and it exploded
