It's been nearly two decades since our miniature Schnauzer went over the rainbow bridge at the age of 16y 4m. I remember it being a difficult time, making advance preparations to bury her in the side yard where she chased squirrels frequently. Dad's funeral a few years earlier seemed less emotional, perhaps because his days were numbered 5 years previously. Fast forward - with the nieces/nephews/grandkids all grown up and the winters rather boring, there's been pressure mounting to get another pup to dote on.

Last Friday I was waved over to the bingo pavilion by a fellow camper under the auspices of providing some positive feedback on the topical ointment she'd been given the previous weekend. Once there, I was ganged up on (or at least it seemed so) by 9 women and shown pictures of a puppy available in the park. We met the little fur ball on Sunday. Today we shopped for bowls, beds, blankets, harness, leash, collar, food, treats, nail clippers, scissors, toys and a pet carrier.

Without further ado, here's our Shih Tzu Ozzy - he'll be 10 weeks tomorrow. Following a walk around the house, a drink and a few nibbles, he's sound asleep on my lap. I'd say we're adjusting well.

Two kittens weren't quite as thrilled, looking on with focused curiosity, but not amused.

OZZY !!!! What a handsome little dude !

Be prepared to be owned by a Shih Tzu . Don't let anyone tell you they're stupid . They're just stubborn as all hell and will act like they don't know what you're telling them . My Jake is a little bonehead sometimes but I wouldn't change a thing about him .

We were warned by another Shih Tzu parent about them being clever and owning you - with stories to substantiate the claim.

He's already performed some drama. We put a harness on him for the first time and suddenly his legs didn't work, laid down, wouldn't move and just looked up with those puppy eyes. It was quite the protest but the harness won't be optional in certain settings. Little steps.

They don't (or at least mine doesn't) take well to a heavy hand in training . My Jake was an adult when I got him but he's learned a lot since then . I just have to be calm and keep on him and he learns well . They have to WANT to do things , treats don't hurt .

Ah that's so great I'm so happy for ya! Love the name,as stated he's such a cute little guy. The adventure you all will have. Look forward to seeing what oz gets into,lol.
