Fairness is wide spread, it's called a meritocracy, or capitalism. Everyone is judged on their merits, and is able to get more (or less) based on those. Those are the only courses of action you percieve in my opinion. I think the song's message was much more than that. Do you vote? Do you think government is necessary? Do you consider yourself a truly civilized being? I can see you like to put a label on things. John Lennon imagined a world where people truly cared about each other & that fairness was widespread...do you?
Of course, there are a few other factors, like friends, and there are some that routinely lie, and enslave others for their own benefit (government).
Life is very fair, you get what you are willing to get off your butt to earn.
I don't see what could be any fairer than that.
To argue that some one should be given something, because if they aren't they'll starve is absurd.
Should wages be such that it is possible to at least survive on the income from them, yes.
But more important would be for government to stop inflating the money supply.
Of course, if government did that, it would have to admit that excluding the effects of inflation our economy has grown much more slowly since the Federal Reserve was created, than before, with the difference being 77x before and only 17x afterwords.
