What influences a plant to become male or female? reason asking is because if u take clones from a non flowered or non male or female plant that has not showed sex yet thats still in the vegging period what will influence the clones that u cut to be a male or female? can anyone help me out?!?!Tricky question huh the reason i ask is because i have random seedlings and i want to cut clones from them in the vegg period so i will have a more chance at gettin female plants but how sure is this method???

Noooo look a plant has no sex until it flowers its like humas we are all females until 8wks them we show our sign of sex! so im saying if u have random plants with no sex and u clone them what will be the possibility that u will get female plants.
 
Did a lot of research so far.

Cannabis is like the human reproductive system; only difference is that they do not have sex with each other. When a seed is produced it has both male and female chromosomes. when it is in the vegg stage it is not sexed yet which means if you were to take a clone it would have male and female chromosomes, it is not until flowering that it shows sex such as humans it is not until eight weeks that the fetus takes the xy(male) or xx(female) traits whichever is dominate. Different environments influences rather it becomes a male or female I will update as I read more but this is just the beginning:hump:
 
Let me try and understand what you are saying. Lets say a plant is grown from seed and is kept in the vegetative state. Then clones are taken from that plant, and depending on the environment the clones are in will determine the clones sex?

yes it depends on the situations of the environment if the temp is too hot it prob will produce a male if its low temp it will prob be a female it varies from plant to plant depends of dominate chromsomes also just like a child I have read all this from wikapedia and seed banks and I am reading more

question are you new to growing or what cause not trying be ignorant but you will have to advance your knowledge of cannabis so how would you know lol thats why I brung it up lol I mean this is my second grow but I have read watched several videos numerous times over and over! I am just doing research on this someone mentioned it to me during my first grows so I thought id look deeply into the subject.... I am not trying to sound like a an expert Im just a nigga that like to grow weed thats all lol i have links for u if u want to futher your knowledge?!?!

Anatomy :: THE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM - this explains the part after the eight weeks of a human when it shows it sex but basically the same as cannabis in the wild it usuallys shows sex when the nights change which is about eight weeks humans and cannabis have a lot in common.

are you sure it is not YOU who is new to growing, dude?

boricuaboi, i checked a couple of articles you linked. thanks for them. but i didn't see anything new in them i haven't read before. like many, i too, read any and everything i could get my hands on before i began growing.

a cannabis plant is already male or female, from seed. but, with chemical treatment, and possibly with eviromental stress, you can help influence to switch sexes.

people have written some findings here. vidoeman40 has a thread with temps and humidity and such that will help to get females. but it's not foolproof unless you use chemicals.

so, even though the plant hasn't shown sex before you flower it, it is already one sex or the other. if you clone a male plant in veg that just hasn't shown sex yet, it's clone will be male. it's that simple.

true, each seed carries the genetic information of the other sex. it is possible to chemically treat it so that it reverses sex. i myself would never try this. it's possible, but surely one of your seedlings will be female.

i think you might be better off not stressing the plants to get them to change sex.

Nah im not new to growing! but yet its a hypotosis i didnt say it was true im just trying to find out. its unisex plant it carries both sexes until the dominate chromosome takes over.
 
you think if you take a clone from a plant before it has shown signs of sex the clone you took can turn out a diffrent sex from the plant it was cloned from. no it will still take the same sex as the plant u cloned it from thats y we wait to find at least 1 female and take as many female clones as we want
taking clones from a plant with out sex yet would be just going by chance like starting from seeds again

is basically the main ideal of this whole thread its a 50/50 chance duh if u look at the links iv posted you will find that cannbis is a unisex plant it when it is sexed it show which ever trait is dominate geeze if i have to say this again imma shoot myself read before you think you know it clearly states that

Cannabis is an annual, dioecious, floweringherb and does anyone know what dioecious means......... not if u keep saying its already sexed

Unisexual - Reproductive structure that is either functionally male or functionally female. In angiosperms this condition is also called diclinous, imperfect or incomplete.

Im not saying I know it all but it states this in the text!


but all i wanted to know is what influences them to become a male or female thats all
 
no it will take the sex from the plant u cloned it from one cant be male and the other female lol they will both be the same sex

pre flower it find out its sex if its male dump it and if its female then u can take clones
