Aerogarden lights in a soil grow

This is my first post on this site, so hello to everyone. I wanted some advice on something. My friend just got an aerogarden as a gift that he doesn't want, and is willing to sell me it on the cheap. I'm not into doing a hydro grow, as im more accustomed to regular soil. I don't have my HID lamps anymore, and what i wanted to know is if i cannibalized the aerogarden lamp would it work at least so-so on a soil grow? Mainly I don't wanna go out and buy a new lamp if i can get at least acceptable results from one that im getting for $20 bucks. I'm just curious so any input would be ultra helpful.
 
for $15 you can get a 48" fixture and a 6500k floro tube. If you able to deal with some wiring you can over drive the bulb to 2x the output. I can tell you that the aerogarden hood is not worth $20. I bought one thinking it would actually grow weed but was sadly mistaken. I think that if you are limited with space you would be better off spending $20 bucks on CFLs.
 
Interesting. Never used compacts, well not true, when i started i did, and not well. They were pretty cheap, just regular bulbs. I always wondered will cfls get you all the way through a grow at least sufficiently?
 
There are a ton of people that do cfl grows, your best bet is cfl for veg and HPS for flowering. CFLs will do a decent job flowering... but you will end up wanting more.
 
interesting in your opinion what percentage of yield is lost by using cfl's through the whole grow process
 
I'm not an expert but I have read that there is a noticeable difference between weight & density of a CFL bud and a HPS bud. I tried to grow with 90 watts worth of LEDs and it was a waste, I'm using 2 48" floros and my plants are getting big. I have a 600w MH/HPS light coming in a few days. Alot of people grow Lowrider #2 under CFLs for the entire grow and get between 10-20 grams per plant, if your low on space that is your only route. If you have a closet or a similar space, floros or MH for veg HPS for flower. You can check out my grow in my sig, it has pictures of 12 plants under Floros. Once I get my new light its going to change a bit. :leaf:

bag seed lol but there doing great today though i just put an order for top 44 and northern lights
