question about a 300W CFL bulb

ok, well yesterday i went and got a 300W bulb for this 300W CFL light cone that i have.

but when i twist it into the socket the light doesnt come on, but with a 100W one it works perfect

Does the 300W have a self contained ballast like a 100W cfl does? Can you post a pic of it or a link?

let me guess you got it from home depot. Anyway be careful when you are talking CFL's and you say 300W.. You should be clear if that is the actual wattage or the incadescent equivilent which im sure that is an equivilent value. Anyway i have A 300W light and i bought a 10.5 Inch reflective hood and when i screw the bulb in it doesnt work. Try to unscrew the cone itself and if it has its own socket try the light in the socket. Most likely the bulb is too big to be screw far enough into the socket to make proper contact.. i returned mine

how many volts does the socket accept??? because I believe that giant 68watt 300 equv needs a 120 equivalent socket... I had the same problem would not come on with certain sockets that were 60 volts but once I put it in an 120v socket the sucker came on

sorry its on the spanish side of the info on the box but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand

Just checked my 23 watt cfls and they also say 120voltz so It cant be that.. I have different sockets and that 68watt cfl will only work with certain ones??

but should i just take it back? or is it worth buying a new socket

Is there a reflector cone on the socket? If so take it off and you should be fine. I bought a socket with the cone on it and had to take the cone off to get the bulb to screw far enough in. It's not that there's not enough voltage. I've got one in a 120 volt socket and it's working fine.

son of a gun!! it was the dam reflector cone that would not let it screw all the way in.. I just took the reflector cone of the socket and ta da!blinkimgonezkiss-ass +rep for that one

the reflector cone on those sockets are like my girls big booty..it wont let me stick it all the way in, lol
