Replacement for cloning gel/powder?

Turns out my local stores are WTF IS CLONING? on me.

So essentially what is cloning gel/powder? How can I supplement it?

How can I make it?

I've had success cloning my seedlings without anything, just in dwc, but with actual clones I want something to boost them in growth.

Anyone?
 
I Don't use gels. They do not "boost" anything. I clone in rockwool and get 100% every time. If you get roots then you are good.
 
lol because normal people don't call it cloning. you want rooting gel or powder for propagation would be the proper term. they have it at fred meyers, but why don't you just order some from ebay?

no you soak the rw in pH 5.5 1/4 strength flowering nutrients and then stick the clones in it.


btw calling it cloning is a dead giveaway you are growing pot. professional gardeners and agriculturalists call it propagation.
 
I plant my clones and put them in a humidity dome. Never had a problem and never needed boosts although I'm sure it would help the roots grow faster.

My horticultural science book always called it cloning specifically under the main category Propagation. See, propagation is a general term. Real plant biologists and horticulturists call the specific method of propagation by its proper term.

Some methods of propagation:
Cloning (cannabis and other plants)
Pollination
Division
Runner Separation
Crowning
Corming

And the list goes on. The people at Home Depot and Lowes aren't really going to know this stuff. I've asked hundreds of associates across the country (Texas, Tennessee, south Carolina, california, Oklahoma, Mississippi,) and they're all clueless when you start using the real terms.

wouldn't you stop asking or put it in different terms after confusing enough of them?

yes propogation is a broader term, but it is more proper than cloning. I suppose if you say you're cloning succulents they might understand.
that is, if they should be working there.
 
I do often find that the peat pucks tend to become compact and stay wet for longer periods. Although ive seen coco pucks which dry quicker.
Everyone has different setups and different things work for different people.

I use clonex, heated humidity dome and peat pucks
I expect roots anywhere between 6 to 10 days
Some have taken longer some shorter!

Nope. If they don't know the terminology I shake my head and ask "How did you get a job in the garden center if you don't know the basic language of horticulture?"
 
I'm getting to be an old fart. 27 in July with the aches, pains, and body replacement parts of a 75 year old. I do tend to get grouchy when people that are older and supposedly smarter than I just look at me with the dumbest expression on their faces when I speak in proper terms.

GET OFF MY LAWN!!!!
 
gel is for 2 things 1. most importantly just another reason for hydro companys to make more money....2. in aero its nice to have because it fully prevents air bubbles from getting in your stem
