I dried my bud for a few days until they snapped slighty....and i recently placed in jars, today will be the 2nd day, I open after 12hrs and left open for around 10 min until felt slighty dry from when opened. How often should I be burping the jars and for how long?

It depends on the moisture content still in the buds. If you're still inside the first week to ten days of jar-curing, I'd say opening for 10-20 minutes, 4-6 times per day should be okay. But again, it depends on exactly how dry everything was before jarring, and your personal preference as far as moist/dry weed.Give the buds a good squeeze to check moisture content, and if it seems to be going well, you can open only 1-3 times a day for a shorter period. The main thing to be careful of during this time is moisture trapped inside the buds that could possibly lead to mold in a few days if not checked well. Just remember, if it feels all crunchy and dry on the outside, that may not necessarily be the case on the inside of the buds. Better to overdry a bit and add a stem or leaf to replenish a bit of moisture, than to presume it's dry and end up with moldy, useless smoke in a week or so.

think of keeping a grape in a jar...you want a raisin but you dont want the grape to mold... keeping the lid on too long will cause it to mold. too much moisture. the longer that lid stays on the more risk you are taking. but again, many believe (including myself) that a slow cure is best...give time for thc's chemical reaction to take place. when i cured i cracked the jars more intervals less time. instead of cracking once every 12 hours for 10-15 minutes i would crack morning afternoon and night once for 2-3 minutes. the wetter the weed the more time i would give for moisture to escape. everyones weed dries different. someone with large nugs would burp more often than someone with popcorn nugs. size of the jar also matters. dont be afraid to open them jars. undercured weed is always better than moldy weed. you can always add a couple drops off water to bring moisture back....

if you smell a slight moldy smell you have too much moisture....need more open time.

Well stated!!!!

I open mine 3 to 4 times a day for the first week (usually for about 5 minutes a pop), then 1 to 2 times a day for the next week then seal 'em up for long-term (but check daily for mold or moisture on the inside of the jar --- if you see ANY sign of it, empty the jar into a brown paper grocery bag or on newspaper and let the weed dry for a few hours).
Over dry weed is still salvageable, but once it's moldy it's no good except maybe for hash or edibles. It takes a bit to develop a "feel" for when it's doing right, plus it depends on if you like really dry weed (which tends to be a bit harsher but burns great in a joint) or more moist weed, which is great for bong/vap use, but may cause some issues in joints for a while.

Experiment and find what suits YOU, because if you ask a thousand different growers about this, you'll get a thousand different answers!!!!

Good luck and good growing!!!!!!:bigjoint:

wow.... this was started a while ago... here's my new strategy works everytime and gives u that compacted bud feel...

dry buds until bud feels dry and u hear a snap but still bendy stem... then place in jars to fully re-moisten.
after they've been re-moistened from jarring, i place in brown paper bags for a few hrs until preferred dryness.
after that i re-jar and burp from there... this doesnt take ALL the moisture out but enough to compact the buds and draw out moisture evenly.

your method works good huh? i have a large batch im getting ready to cure and i think i am going to try different methods. i will give yours a try with some weight. this doesnt dry buds out too fast huh? get good flavor and smell also?
