Check the other threads, I welcome the tea party and rail against the corruption going on in the party that somewhat espouses my views (albeit for the wrong reasons).

I don't intend to 'sell' the health care reform bill recently passed, I merely like to point out the obvious advantage in doing almost anything different from our previous, 17% of GDP, more expensive than any other similar nation while not insuring all citizens way of doing things. If McCain was elected and passed the same bill, I would feel the same way, slightly irked but glad we did SOMETHING. After all, this is a pretty centrist bill when you compare it to other nations or even what republicans in this nation proposed back during the days of Clintoncare or Romneycare (as recently as 2006).

would you let someone who has never ran a company or business who has NEVER ran anything before other than government programs straight into the ground run health care..plus they took over the student loan business in the same bill..another TWO industry nationalized.

Even though it is off topic, and we have beaten this subject to death, I must respond.

Doing 'anything' to change the economy is not always better than 'doing nothing'. The economy is the primary concern of most voters, not healthcare, and the effects of the new law will impact the economy in a negative way. This political contradiction can be explained as either stupidity, or an ulterior motive : one more basis for wealth redistribution. Too many people have been duped into believing that this is really about helping people, and not about power.

Americans have chosen to pay for the best healthcare in the world ( up to now ), better care is more expensive.

Equal healthcare is not a 'right' in this country as it may be in others. The way we have done things ( up to now ) has produced better healthcare results than other nations. There is no need to follow their example.

I doubt that any republican or conservative ( who is not actually a progressive ) would have proposed a federal government solution to providing healthcare. However, tort reform and other issues may be within the powers of congress to enact. Free-market or state solutions should be the first attempt at reform. This law is radically different, taking power from the states and the individual. "Romneycare" is only at the state level. Federal control and power is the prime concern to most constitutional opposition..

Its funny you say that because I make under 29k a year so guess what if I do take health care you have to foot the bill anyways cause it will be free to me.

way to take shit out of context. this registry refers to medical devices having a serial number. not a registry identifying individuals, and requiring them to get a chip implant.

silicon implants serial numbers already. the insurance industry has required parts to be labeled for years, to make it possible to identify fraud, it can also help identify John and Jane Does.

I stand by my assertion that the entirety of our healthcare system is superior to any other nation. If you treat healthcare as other than a "good or service", then you may reach a different conclusion.

There is no exclusive fix. But there are many things to try without shutting the door prematurely on reform.

I don't think that life expectancy in the US has as much to do with quality of health these days as it does with modern, sedentary lifestyles and poor diets. Just another problem for another day. Now I'm get the hell back out of the politics forum.

I view healthcare as a "good or service", this means that it is optional depending on what you want to pay.
Being treated for an immediate injury is compassionate, and we have laws to ensure this, regardless of payment.
But if you want the best goods and services, you must pay for them, one way or another. You want an MRI instead of a CAT, you pay for it. America has the best available healthcare. Quality of the system cannot be determined by public health or how affordable it is for the best care.
I'm also sure there are ways to make it more affordable with reform that doesn't burden the taxpayer, but affordability is very different and freedom-based. The problem is the assumption that healthcare is a "right" and that it is deserved regardless of payment. One cannot create rights that take rights from someone else.

This morning an article in my local newspaper talked about cutting the school week to four days instead of five because of the reduced funds coming into the state coffers. This is rationing of a government service.

The post office will soon reduce their deliveries to five days a week, eliminating Saturday deliveries due to growing costs. This is rationing of a government service.

The Progressives assure us that nationalized healthcare will not be rationed. The Progressives live in a make-believe world known as La-La Land.
