the south american syndicates are not only about coke and pot - most of the meth in the US comes from them as well.. also heroin, MDMA, etc..
you can blame the 'american appetite for drugs', but it is not simple to make everyone stop all drugs.. that is what we have learned..

its not all about california!!! we are trying to get it on the ballot here in wa state too.

i'd think one thing is pretty sure, DEA will likely need to strike some deal with the state
does DEA plan on taking up the slack from the state enforcement that goes away?

i'd think there will be a limit to the size of a 'recreational dispensary' that DEA will allow
if they try to be hard asses, then Cali gets no tax revenue, which probably would start pissing off a lot of residents, even more then now

South america LMAO... Ford You should go to Iowa cause its the meth capital of the U.S. 4 sure. When I was there I saw closets full of meth and rooms filled with it. Making in barns, motels, basements and an old run down school that was made into apartments. You watch the news and hear its a problem, but when you see that kind of production it fuckn blows ur mind. I honestly thought people were storing it there long term but they really make and sell that amount of meth in a matter of a few weeks. I lived in a house for two years down the block from an old church that was a meth lab. They made meth for a full two years b4 they got busted and the dude that owned the place did less than 60 days got and told my room mate he had over $700,000 saved up and he moved to Washington.

small operations make tons of meth - but, behind many of them is the cartel smuggling of ingredients through international channels.. they are the biggest supplier in terms of bigness.. dudes in old churches don't pull in $20B in a year.. again - the syndicates smuggle everything, not just pot, coke, meth, h, lsd, mdma - everything including guns, bombs, and human slaves.. however, we now know that $100B or so of that money comes from pot alone - if we legalize and smoke only domestic weed they won't have enough to bribe officials and stay in business as strong as they are now..

Well I'm sure as hell not doing any coke or meth, and the smoke I've even given up for a while in order to make a few extra large credit card payments so I'll be debt free by the end of the year (except for student loans.) Somehow it makes it easier to give up smoking for a while for me when I know something special is on the way that your growing yourself...

The way the act works is it legalizes recreational use and possestion for anybody over 21, it also leaves it up to the counties to regulate distribution and whether or not it is legal to sell it in your locality. My guess is that the supreme court is going to challenge this bill when and if it passes before any counties can even set up a system of selling it. This bill is a big deal but it definatley is not going to legalize marijuana its just a big fuck you to the federal government. a public statement telling them that we not only think the states should decide drug laws but that this state wants marijuana to be legal.

i am not blaming anyone for using drugs - it is not our fault for buying from the connected dealers - it is all a direct result of prohibition - just like the beer barons.. we cannot simply try not to buy from deeply illicit sources - it is like trying to get the US not to buy foreign oil.. i think we must slowly remove the illicit status of all drugs and treat the matter as a health and safety issue - we can properly educate kids and discourage abuse of any substance.. i believe i have educated myself enough now that i will never indulge in heroin, coke, meth, or any drug that i know causes mental and physical repercussions.. we remove the demand and the inflated value of the substance and we will have done away with the black market.. it's not like the US should be sanctioned for buying blood oil or be forced to buy it from warlords in secret..
i don't know asdf.. it is not like we haven't been telling the white house that we enjoy pot for decades - they out of any of us should know how many californians smoke - this is not a warning shot over the bow - i for one am dead serious that this needs to happen and needs to happen now.. i see it as making a polite move on our own - we are not flipping off the feds - we want them to lay off so we are cautiously, slowly removing the noose...

i have been muling this one over, had a few discussions with some grow site lawyers
supreme court can't do this unilaterally, or is very unlikely, some party has to challenge the law
some part of the executive branch will probably do it, but the supreme court has ruled on a related case
they allowed cali's mmj to remain, though they affirmed the federal government's right to enforce mj laws
which was pretty much contradictory
what's kind of exciting is if TC2010 isn't viewed as state legalization, just as the state lessening it's mj law penalities
there is no law that says that a state has to have a mj law
if the federal government wants to keep mj illegal, well that's their prerogative
if viewed that way, DEA has to do all the enforcement, which i'm not too sure they want anymore

i think that their prerogative is null.. i believe that the heads of our nation have very enlightened internal knowledge on many issues including drugs - they don't really want to be unfair as individuals, but because of the way the huge machine is propped up they cannot unilaterally do anything or even speak out in favor of lessening penalties.. and beyond that the entire globe is another bulwark of people who cannot speak for the little guy and instead stick with the status quo.. i don't see any real obstacles beyond getting the majority vote.. the hard road is getting the rest of the nation and the world to follow suit..
