So this is my second batch of Skunk #1. Grown in Fox Farms Ocean Forest potting soil with Fox farms nutes. The first batch I harvested at 8 weeks and it turned out "fluffy" with no density to it. I was told I should have flowered it longer. This second batch I flowered for 10 weeks. When they were cut down they were very dense and hard, I was happy as hell. Now they've dried and theres no density. You can squeeze it and it's like a sponge and fluffy. Is this just the character of the strain?

What lights are you using?

I've found with my cheese (a pheno from skunk no.1 i think) that before the chop they feel rock solid, and afterwards they turn to squish like you say, however come the end of their dry and a few days in the jars and it hardens up again. The lower buds remain fluffy though.

I'm using 4- 180w LED's and t-5 supps on the sides. The Pure Power and Pure Gold I grew turned out awesome and dense as hell, but this.....not so much.

Intensity = dense buds. The more Lumens you got hitting the plant(S).. the denser the buds will become.

But, then again.. genetics plays a part in this as well.

some strains are just fluffier (lighter) than other strains.

For example, a strain that is more sativa than indica.. will have lighter buds.. then when compared to a strain that is more Indica than Sativa.

Indica strains have denser nugs than Sativa strains.

So again, yes.. genetics do play a vital part in this as well.

good luck.

i hear the molasses pumps them up a bit
Indeed it does! Good job my friend.

Molasses does in fact, speed up the plants metabolism, therefore, it helps the plant speed up its processes.

It's kinda like comparing human metabolism. Some people take supplements to help speed up their metabolism.. to help themselves get in better shape faster.. or just to feel better. No one person has the same rate of metabolism. :) Same with plants, but if you feed them molasses.. it does help speed their metabolism up a bit.

nice.

peace.

Try Bud Candy by Advanced Nutrients it has all the carbs, sugars, and more that you girls will need and love . It will enhance smell, taste, and density. Density being what you need.

The guy posts the shittiest lighting combination humanly possible and people suggest MOLASSES? Come on.

Get real lights, grower! That's what the problem is. You want real dense nugs you gotta get real lights. Molasses....... Good god!

Really?! the only strain doing it, all conditions equal, and you come up with "its your lights." And your going to act like someone else is stupid?! If its the lights, why are none of the other strains showing this? being stuck up is good for the ego, not so much for logic.

Seriously, I think its just the strain, if thats the only difference amongst all of them, and thats the only one doing it...welcome to sativa's, you'll be alot happier about it when you smoke it... :)

I heard you should not let the plants touch each other when flowering, because they sense this and release an enzyme that causes them to climb as one toward the light. Like the canapy of a jungle climbing toward the light. This causes fluffyer buds.

maybe the different strain needs more light to get more dense buds. i have the same prob with certain strains and i know that i dont have enough light.
