I think the op wants to know maybe what kind of jobs we have and what kind of income we make at it. Not the ol' " I got a comfy couch, fat joint, and grub in the fridge so I'm all set".
My wife and I both work. I'm general manager for a firm and my wife is a manager in the medical field. We pull down about $125,000.00 per year. We have a nice house on a golf course. We have nice cars and toys. I sleep on a $3000 Tempurpedic bed that's the best night sleep you'll ever get. Most rooms in the house have flat panel big screens on the wall. We eat most of our meals out, blow money at the casino's once in a while. We're not rich by any means but we are pretty damn comfortable. Everything we have we earned through hard work at our jobs.
There are plenty of longs hours at work and lots of stress to go with it and that's where many people start saying "fuck that, give me a little shanty on the waters edge, some good smoke and a little home made wine and that's all I'll ever need". Sounds simple and romatantic to be sure but what if you have kids? What if that kid has a kid and is about to lose their car because they can't find a job that pays them well enough now that they're laid off?
Sometimes the bigger picture means we make sacrifices so that those we love can be well taken care of. And maybe I'm a wuss but I like knowing my bills are paid, that there is plenty of gas in the car, that I have short term disability insurance, that I can whip out my debit card at a cash register and be worried about it being rejected, that if my kid hits me up for a $1500 bail out I'm able to help.
I'm not materialistic, just realistic to what life can do to those who insist on being unprepared.

Sounds to me like your living the life... I wish my parents were like that... They are too indeed living the life... but they have never given me SQUAT.
If I called my parents and asked for $20 bucks I'd get told no, let alone a $1500 bail! Hah.

My daughter is 23 years old and in addition to making her car payment and insurance we also give her $150 a week as sort of an allowance. Because of my personal lifestyle it's very important that she not move back into my house. A casual visitor to my house would never know what's up but some one who lived there might start to question strange fan noises that seem very obvious in the middle of the night when all else is quite.
Also, if your parents won't help you out even though they are able to then you must have been a real pain in the ass growing up. lol.

Wealth is not related to income, it's referring to monetary and non-monetary assets. So you'd be better off starting an anonymous poll (hopefully people answer truthfully) with $50k ranges. People can click on the range that they fall into. Maybe go up $750k?

For anyone interested in the topic of wealth, check out the book; The Millionaire Nextdoor. It'll give you a lot of insight as to who actually has wealth and who is just spending their way to the poorhouse. For instance; your neighbors who drive 2 BMWs and just put an addition on their house are a lot poorer than you think. On the flipside, your blue-collar neighbor who drives a beat-up truck and owns a small landscaping business is probably the wealthiest person on your block.

Cut the cord? Believe me I would love too. But what about my 1 year old grand daughter? Should she live in a car too. And anyway, what you guys are calling the "cord" in this case is family helping family when their down. Lifes hard guys, it shouldn't have to be humiliating too.

I had to have my car insurance paid off this year by my parents, simply could not find a job to pay it off and also continue eating and showering. Certainly it can be bad if it's just parents throwing cash at their kids, but hey, times are pretty rough at present, and as much as i actually resent the money, it was necessary to go out and get a job once one does come up (not many jobs around home other than bar work, gotta travel).

I feel ya. When I was a kid, I was a pain in the ass, and got kicked to the curb at 15. I've been homeless, lived in the ghettos and the trailer park. My parents didnt help me a bit, until I grew up and started taking care of myself, after i finished college got married and had kids. Then if things got tough Mom would help me out, for the grandkids. Even when you cant help/shouldnt help your kids, the little ones still need help.
But my little ones are teens now and life is good. I was wealthy (in cash) at one time, bought my house in cash, got the car I always wanted, now i set at home and smoke weed (when the kids are away) cause life is too short to worry about money. Wealthy is a state of mind, but its a lot easier to be happy living in a house than living in the park.
And that's what I'm talking about. If she were worthless and childless I would likely let her be to fend for herself. But she's not worthless. She's been frugal since being on her own and tries damned hard to get by now that her piece of shit husband left. So she's gone from two incomes to make ends meet to trying to do it on unemployement benifits. That math doesn't work out. So for now, I help.

Im young and im pretty sure all the posts made here are from men 30 + im almost 20 and honestly i learned through my experience with weed and money i was way happyer when i would come home to my brothers fucking with me then i was to my new quad. You can stride for more and more money but with all your money how can you appreciate the little things that make people with out it find meaning to life?
