Cops drilling locks? LMFAO!!! I agree with bro who said cops just kick the shit out of your door. Its common in BC for cops to tear down a small grow-op and take plants,smash bulbs and then just leave. As far as blaming this site thats retarded...besides if someone is growing without a license and chatting about it online without hiding your ip address, you...um...er...you have to expect anything....hot spot shield(by anchor free) is free small program that evertime u log on wil give you a ip address from a different country. Well good luck in future (as a drip of my beer hits the floor in memory of the fallen ladies....lol)

Yeah, they have battering rams they wouldn't waste time drilling locks. I don't think they wanted to make a lot of noise. Plus cops don't raid a house and not take anyone to jail. Sounds like an old fashion robbery. How big was your grow op?

I dont think you understand. The management company called the police. The management company doesnt want their door fucked up. When they tried to open the door WITH THE KEY the guy was behind it. That is when they drilled the lock.
Pretty simple actually... The criminal here didnt own the door the police didnt want to fuck up.... (not that you are a criminal).

Kind of hard to argue that 50 plants was for personal meds. If property management caught wind of the grow and told the Sheriff that you had that many plants, they jumped to the first logical conclusion (in their minds). Sounds like your writ saved your ass. Without it, you would probably be in a cell right now instead of discussing things here. If it had been a couple of small plants, things may have been different. You probably still would get kicked out. Obviously your PM group does not distinguish legal medical growing from criminal enterprise. It sucks, but it is reality.
It makes sense that they would try to keep the damages low if the property management was involved. It sounds like they are as the maintenance man attempted to get the door opened initially. There is no law that says the door has to be kicked/rammed in, they just usually do because it is quick and easy.

Something isn't right on two issues.
#1 cops do not drill locks, they bust through them.
#2 if the landlord was involved and turned you in, I would think he would provide a key as landlords don't like their property broken up.
You said they were in uniform. Where they in marked police cars or unmarked?
I think you got robbed by some gutsy rippers in costume and the landlord is pissed from the damage and not knowing what was going on.

I'm extremely interested in this; does everyone agree with this statement about being "up front" with the landlord? Is it the landlord's business what you do? Why is it better to be up front with the landlord if everything is legal? When negotiating with a potential landlord, would you simply say something like: "I have a medical marijuana card (or planning to get one). Would you be opposed to me legally growing here?"
Would you even mention the fact that you may later even want to upgrade their power for them?
Lastly, has it been hard (any experiences) finding a rental, while being up front about possibly wishing to grow medically?

I've spoken to many potential landlords about this issue. Some react like I've just raped their dog, some say "I don't care where the rent comes from just don't tear the place up.", and the majority have just told me that I'm responsible for landscape maintenance and as long as the place looks good when they drive by they will keep on driving. I actually had one that was excited, not for the smoke, but for money. He figured I'd be able to "cut him in".
The most common way I've brought it up is by simply making my medical status be known and they usually bring up the growing question.

Have you ever had to hire an electrician to upgrade any of these rental properties? Is this a potential problem with the landlord?

Not yet, but soon. I am going to need to upgrade in my new place. I've asked them about upgrades and they are good with it as long as it is done by a licensed electrician. They just don't want any liability issues in the future. There are some upgrades that they are willing to re-imburse me for such as repairing the patio, re-tiling the bathrooms, etc. He said that if it is something to improve the functionality of the home, they will work with me. If it's something such as upgrading the electric to a bedroom then I'm on my own. He did say, however, that if the electrician were to do a whole-system inspection he would help with the cost since it hasn't been inspected in years. Now I just need to find an electrician that is willing to trade services and I may actually MAKE a little money off the deal. He DOES require that I provide him proof of current renters insurance, but I do that anyway.

I would bet that most people who have found themselves kicked out of their homes because they didn't would agree.
Somebody can confirm this or not but I remember reading a thread where people were claiming that if you had a wardrobe with a lock on it they can't open it because it's yours where they can open apartments because it's a rental.

Now here's the deal /ross perot...
When you sign a contract with a landlord you are typically agreeing to use it solely for residential purposes. That means you are not going to be running a business out of it. It is written right into all standard contracts.
Therefore, if you are not up front with your landlord, you are already breaking the contract. You would need to amend the contract to allow you to grow x amount of plants for personal use or whatever. Most landlords dont like the chance of their doors getting kicked in and/or the place burning down. Of course you can find the occasional cool landlord as well. However, if you are not up front then it is all at your risk.

Honesty is your best policy. I figure i can find a place and grow guerilla-style and risk being evicted or I can spend more time and effort to find a place that is cool with the situation and be very comfortable, knowing the rent is paid.

Ditto. That's why I don't have company. I can count on one hand the amount of people, not family, that have been in my house in the last year. This is my sanctuary. I keep the madness out there and away from here.
