Question about HPS

I'm about to buy a HPS for my next grow and i was wondering if anyone has ever vegged with them. I know MHs have a better light temperature but they emit too much heat and I don't think its necessary for me to buy more lights. I have fluorescents(not T5) and cfls, both 6700k but im sure HID lights are better if I want more usable light.

Thanks

Your question can be answered several ways ,depending on what type of plant your looking to grow, large full plants that you plan on having an extended veg cycle will benifit from running the proper light spectrum as in MH over HPS,plants that are going to have a short veg cycle as in SOG type plants gain very little or nothing from using MH durring veg.

I run all 600 watt HPS lighting in my rooms for all stages of plant growth using the SOG grow style with excellent results.

MH doesn't really produce any more heat than HPS. They are both hid. I know there is no difference in temps in my tent when I switch from MH to HPS. I use the same ballast, hood and cord. All I do is unscrew one bulb and put the other in.

It works. The root growth is not stimulated as much using HPS. I used to do it, before I got my new light. Now I use a 1KW MH Blue from Hortilux for veg. They LOVE it.

I run with a combo of lights in veg including MH and HPS.... I run extra bulbs when I hit flower.... my babies seem to like the current setup alot...... I went rootbound in 3 gallon pots in 10 days after re transplanting them from 2 inch pots..... During Veg you want to grow big roots so that during flower you can grow big fruits....

it works basically the same as mh except nodes are a little longer.
Also hps is more energy efficient than mh
