Upside down growing: would it work?

So, the other day my friend and I came across one of those upside down planter things. I wondered- would this work with marijuana? Why or why not? I'm not an expert in the area, so I figured I'd ask the rollitup community what they thought. It may sound stupid, and it may even be stupid, but just let me know if thats even possible, or if anyone has ever done it. Thanks!

it would work but the plant wouldnt remain upside down as they tend to go toward the light and nothing is forcing it to go straight down.

But if you put the light on the bottom...
Not sure I see the advantage to doing it that way, but IMO it would work.

is it possible that certain nutrients, hormones, or maybe even THC would be compelled to drain downward? i mean.. gravity..

I think it will definitely work and the statement about water running down the stem and ruining the buds can easily be fixed by wrapping some paper towels around the stem so the water drops are soaked up. I've seen tomatoes grown in one of those topsy turvy planters and it got huge. I don't know what to compare it to tho as in yield wise. If I were going to do this I would put lights on the ground and tie the planter so it is a good distance away depending on the lights. Then only move the plant up when it gets too close to the light. I would think that it may stretch a lot since it is upside down so having a tall ceiling is probably a good idea. Good luck with this if anyone actually tries it. I will definitely keep posted to see how it turns out.

yeah someone should try this. i still live with parents, so probably not the best idea. you definetly couldn't do any stealth growing this way. unless you had a giant box..

One advantage I imagine is that the buds and branches won't have to strain against gravity and thus you shouldn't have to worry about stem strength as much. There may even be accelerated growth because of this... Who knows?

Seems like more trouble than its worth, really...Also, heat rises, so if you had an inverted grow I wouldnt want my plants sitting above a few toasty bulbs. Also having the lights on the ground would annoy the fuck out of me. They would be shining up in your face any time you had to tend to your plants.

Its not impossible, but I doubt it would give you any better results with just a lot of extra hassle.

i feel like with a fan on the plant though, they couldn't get too hot. not unless you had them right above the light. but i agree with the light in your face.. i'd just turn it off though.

Wrapping paper towels? That hasn't fixed the problem. You get a tomato wet...no ones would mind. But a big dank sticky bud? You are begging for bud rot, mold...all kind of ailments.

That would suck.

Rule #1: Don't do shit to make your grow suck.
