Solar Panels in Grow Room

Anyone experiment with using solar panels within the grow room too recycle some of the light thats bouncing around the room? Maybe to power a fan?

Well you see folks as the "common stoner" finds himself sick of buying weed. He decides to grow it. He will nuture the plant and love it like his own child.....(trails off) *nearing the end of speech* ......he had the idea to recycle light. Well pot as they so called it has mad this human being more economic. And that's why pot needs to be legal. We will all be more economic stoner like young maxims here. Thank you ladies and gentlemen. This could be really interesting. You should do some research and find out, crazy idea.. would have never thought of it myself.

I know they sell solar panels at hardware store but they are fucking pricey.
 
Lol, you would be taking away light from the grow instead of reflecting it back like you should.
 
Just looked for the hell of it. HD has panels. One that puts out 123w at 12v costs over $800. It's big too...over 2' x 5', 3" thick. I am neither an electrician or physics scholar, but I don't think that's much juice. They got some little ones that are meant for gate openers and stuff too.
 
i am going to school to be an electritian i will ask my teacher tomorrow see what the background behind your idea is. I love this idea!.
 
Solar panels are just like huge fan leaves developed to absorb light. If you have a system in your room to absorb the light all you are going to acomplish is robbing your babies of the extra light they need.
 
If you place the solar panels on the walls where the least amount of light is placed, then yes it would be beneficial to you. I have done a setup before where i used the solar to power my fans, no need for timers then:)
The trick is to get a small/ or smaller sized panel, and use that to its max. Big panels take up too much space and can be broken easily. The one i used was for an rv or window, like on your dash. It worked consistently for 4 days then i scrapped the project.

The thing i would like to do is just have my grow, "off the grid" and use only solar power to light my grow sing batteries and what not.

put them below the fan leaves it would prolly be ok. I wonder how long it would take to pay itself off
 
If your in an area in which they allow you to put up wind turbines they are a better way to produce electricity instead of solar in your grow. check ebay they have 1000 watt units for resonable prices.
 
Forgot to ask the teacher but i would image you would have to make sure its 12v then how many amps ifs producing to figure out how many watts its going to supply so you might be able to get away with 400watts? Unless they make ones that can produce more i dont see why this wouldnt work, even make a battery bank to to store power while powering your veg room or veg room to power you flower room. I am stealing your idea its genious? Will plus rep when i get to a computer.
 
How much power is 123w @ 12v with somewhere around 7-8 amps? What can that run? I am guessing the power has to be converted/transformed to a different voltage unless you have something that runs on 12v. Just wondering what the practical application might be. Bear in mind that the numbers above are for that rather large and expensive panel from HD that I mentioned earlier.
 
i'm confused about the "robbing the light" part. i know what it means in general, but is it being suggested that the introduction of solar panels will actually cause a light meter to read less light in the room due to some of it being "eaten"? i am so not a scientist.

Im guessing what they are saying is that the light instead of bouncing off the wall it will hit the solar panel and be absorbed. But I dont know does the light bounce off the wall then off another wall, and by the time it hits the plant its like nothing is hitting the plant? Thats why they say keep the light X distance from the plant and there are charts that show distance of light from plant and amount of lumens it degrades. We could probably debate it forever but the best is to just test it. See what happens. And the wind turbine is a great idea too, add everything we can in there.
 
i’m surprised this thread hasnt gotten more attention cause this is the future i see it. Your plants are getting all the light they need?? Can i get a light absorbtion rate of a jane plant? Maybe put one on the floor or something.. 123w and 12v = 10.2 amps, but you already answered your question it puts out 123w of power so you could power 5 23w clfs 1 65 with 2 23w cfls. You get the picture, you could almost power a 150w hps with that. How big of a panel is that? Maybe its under rated? Could only hope haha, sorry for the morning ramble
 
So guys, the same rays the plant absorbs is the rays that the solar panel is powere by? Same spectrums? Does the solar panel not reflect any types of rays?
