Blackstar 240W 6 band

I'm thinking of taking a chance and purchasing this light. I was wondering how much heat comes off the top of the light and will it cause the light to melt or anything like that. All I can provide for the light as far as ventilation of hot air is a rotating fan inside the grow area and an open window. Does this sound like a problem. I hear LED lights produce far less heat than HID lights so I'm hoping this could work out.

I don't know anything about electricity either. Can I plug this light into a regular wall socket without causing any problems ?

they're great led lights my buddy has five of the 240w and 2 500w panels not much heat output, you could do that sure but wouldn't your plants need fresh air?

Just order a 240 blackstar I have 2 90 UFOs by sunshine but I wish I would of known about lighthouse before I bought them on paper the 240 watt blackstar is just one bad a$$ light ! cant wait to use it..
I payed 435 each for the crappy UFOs "in Alaska" I think there only 2 band not 100% sure, anyways I got the blackstar 240 for only 250 bucks those 3 watt chips look really nice..

I have a 240 watt Blackstar, I run it right next to a 400 watt HPS......the difference in heat produced is huge.

To answer your question, yes you should be fine with that airflow.

If the LED unit doesn't come with any fans built in then it is automatically a shitty LED light

If the LED unit does come with fans you shouldn't need to worry about the heat at all

I don't think they are being very truthful about their Watt ratings. That thing claims 240w but only has 88 lights on it. Which means each light uses an average of 2.72w not counting fans. On another LED thread the blackstar people were saying how their units were '300' but only appeared to be pulling about 150w from their wall.

I'm pretty sure that 3w LED lights don't run as high as even 2.5w. I've seen 2w LEDs that run as high as 1.55w but I haven't heard of 3w LEDs running over 1.5w which would support my suspicions

especially considering the Spectra 240w panel has 160 2w LEDs compared to this 240w Blackstar that only has 88 3w. That means if the 88 3w LEDs are running at half power they use the same amount of watts as 160 2w LEDs running at 1.5 (which is what 2w LEDs actually run on)

I think you really just bought a '240' unit that is actually only a 120w

I have a blackstar Flowering 240W in my cab along with two 90w ufos I got with the cab. With all three going, the inside temp of the cab above the vent fan is 84F. Incoming air is about 70 from the two intakes. This is a 36x 18x 72 cab, so all things considered, not a whole lot of heat being added . No where near the heat of a bunch of CFLS or the HID types.
