question about lighting

i have 2 1ks for flower ran on 240v with the mlx box where i can run 4 1ks off it but right now im using a 8bulb t5 for veg which uses 4.5 amps would i be better running a 400 or a 600 on 240v to save on electricity? thank you in advance for those who chime in.

of course a lower wattage light will use less electricity, voltage doesnt change consumption, wattage does. its up to you, if you want to pinch a lil, switch lights as you go.

you mean amperage lol and yes your bill is run off wattage so the amperage of the light will not effect your bill. that t5 is definately less money than the 600 or even 400 i believe check wattage on it and compare

Its all based on wattage, weather voltage goes up and amperage goes down or vise versa, its wattage that is consumed.

a 400 watt light on 120 will draw twice as many amps as it would on 240, its till 400 watts...

I know verry little about electricity lol. I just wasnt sure if if it went by amps or watts cause when i bought my 1ks the guy at the grow store told me that it would be more efficent to run them on 240 cause it cuts the amps in half from 8.8 to 4.4 i just wasnt sure if it would have been better to do the same type of thing for veg .thank you for clearing that up for me though guys.

correction > if either the voltage or the amps increase the bill will in fact increase since

volts x amps = watts .. so either one increasing will increase the overall wattage resulting in a higher bill

it would seem that many here do not even have the basic grasp of something as simple as ohms law

you missed the whole point of the conversation, we wernt figuring out watts... isdos50 asked if running a 400 or 600 watt light would be chaeper on 240 versus 120.

I fully understand the question, and answered it with my ohms law point
you are obviously one of these folk that needs to brush up on ohms law,

if he wants to know the power/cost then of course he is talking about wattage

it is because he and you do not correctly understand this you are getting in a muddle with your watts amps n volts, i decided to clear that up for you

the overall wattage of his light is the total measure of the power it is using (volts x amp)

a ballast designed to run on both 120/240 will draw 2x the current at 120v than it will at 240v to produce the same 400 watts or 600 watts

others already tried to point this out but made a small error with the relationship between volts amps and wattage

its kinda a bit like asking what weighs more, 1kg of feathers or 1kg or bricks lol
