topping questions

I have a purple haze and one other plant that are taking off and look thin and are getting much taller then the other plants . I am planning on switching my light cycle tonight . Is it a bad idea to top a plant when switching light cycle ? also does anyone have a picture of where i should cut exactly i have a few books but the pictures are sketch drawing . if anyone has a link on topping that would be great .

I FIMed mine right when I changed my cycle and it didnt stress or anything. Stunts the growth a little bit, but thats to be expected. I dont know if there is any real risk though.

wouldn't it make more sense leaving it in veg for a few days just to let it heal switching them to flower and letting heal at the same time would add stress. im sure you know more just trying to put my 2 sense in lol

YOU SHOULD HAVE DONE IT 2 WEEKS PRIOIR TO A LIGHT CHANGE!!

if you doi it now and then go to 12/12 its way to risky,,it can stress plant and cause hermie in begining of flower(seen it happen straght from 24 to 12/12 also)..

try to always go from 24,-18-,12/12 ...............Its alot safer everything I just told you(and all you need to do is pinch the verry last part of top growing tip(real carefull with scicorrs).

DONT CHOP OFF THE TOP OF PLANT ITS STUPID!!!(and not necessery to send hormones down to lower growing shoots)

So judging by the replys I still don't know what i should do . maybe just tie it down ? would that be safer ? or pinching it ? I really don't want this thing to get 2' before i switch as i don't need a 6 foot plant . That would cause light issues .

as far as the plants I don't think it is terrible to top and immediately flower. not a bad Idea to wait a couple days though like our un named buddy said.

Do you have superthrive? If not I would get that. you add like an eight of a teaspoon/gal when watering just when you stress the plant out. can overdo it so really just once or twice a grow is all you'll need. I usually do right after topping. then about 3 weeks into veg when i prune.

I am tryign to decide whether to top a jack herrer. I am not really used to growing taller stretchy plants.

Ok...so...topping/LST/etc are methods for making the plant put more effort into growing the side shoots, topping a plant will make it take a little longer to finish, if its already 2' and you want it to finish at 4' then topping it now and switching it to 12/12 right now would work just fine, read up on supercropping as well if you've only got the one plant and want to get the most out of her...its a balance of damage and healing, if you go overboard with it it will dramatically increase the time it takes to finish flowering, but if you do just enough it will increase your yields without extending the time too much.

And any grower that knows anything knows not to shoot hormones to lower braches in begining of flower(unless you want it to mature from bottom up)..
