I have heard that you basicly can grow a plant indoors to any height you want and then drop your lighting to 12/12 to flower. My question is, is there a good height as a standard to stick to., before i start to flower them?
vegging under 1 400w mh, 5 plants, 1 Auroua, 2 carnival, 2 zensation strians.
will flower under 400w mps, ladies are 2 months old and looking good.
I know this is pretty vauge, alot to learn hope you all can help me thru this process.
Any thoughts appreciated.

Keep in mind that when you switch plants to 12/12 they will start to stretch. The amount they stretch is strain variable and even plant variable. Sativa tend to stretch more than indica. I wouldn't veg them over half the height you have to grow in for sure. And probably stop somewhere before that just to be safe until you tune in your system

As a rule of thumb cannabis will grow approximately 2-3 times it's veg height in flowering. So if you have 5 feet in height max to work with, start flowering when they are 2'6" tall at the latest. If you are limited to height and want to max the yield, I suggest an lst grow.

i was thinking of a max height of 4ft, so i should start to flower them at around 2ft?

Use metal-halide lamps during the first couple weeks of flowering. This will limit stretching. Once the plants stop growing, then you may switch to high-pressure sodium lamps to finish flowering. I've never had a plant double in size when using this method. I vegetate my plants to approximately 3 feet in height before I induce flowering and they usually finish growing at a little over 4 feet.

for a 400w 4 ft is prob the max height you want... anything further away and the light just isn't going to be strong enough to penetrate/reach.

Thanks guy's for your inputs to my questions.4ft will be the target. One more question? Plants are growing in 2 gal pots, that shouldn't be a problem, should it?J

2 gallons is probably a little small. Personally, I wouldn't worry too much about it... Maybe just increase to a 3 or 5 gallon next time.

Thinking 2 gallon pots will work good. It all depends on space limitations. You can always bend them over to help with the height issue. Lovin your avatar jay.
