"You use 27% more electricity than your neighbors"

Never had anything like that, the only notice I have ever had on my bill is current use vs use same time a year ago.

Yeah me too. As a matter of fact my wife justpointed it out to me this morning! Lol shit creek? You betcha. :joint:

Yeah, I have elec oil heat. washer/dryer, 2000s fridge and mostly incandesent bulbs.
I believe the wife signed us up for some deal where our bill is the same every month. I'll have to ask her.

get rid of those bulbs ASAP! i shit you not i cut out well over 300 watts just by switching all my bulbs in the apartment, and i only have 4 actual rooms plus a bathroom and pantry. i basically disguised the entire t5 fixture just by changing my bulbs. 4 months into the grow (t5 only at that time) my "usage graph" on my bill was LOWER than before i changed the bulbs. it really makes that much of a difference.

a 75w incandescent replaced with a 14w cfl will save 61 watts per bulb. do this with 5 bulbs and you cut down 305 watts. hell you could leave them on 24/7 and still use less electricity than you use now.

You can get a new gas furnace with a variable speed blower that will use less energy than a 100 watt light bulb. If the neighbor has one and you're still using an old 50-60% gas furnace that old blower motor could account for most of that 27%.

I use a 24k btu space heater mounted on the wall in my garage to keep it comfortable out there. I'm not allowed to smoke in the house. Here's a side rant about that. I maintain 70 degrees in the garage, last winter we had a morning that got down to -19 (that's rare in my area) so anyway my wife pulls her suv out to go to work. That night I notice that "chrome" grill was all wrinkled and fucked up looking. I guess the instant 90 degree temp swing was more than the chrome tape on that plactic grill could handle. Color me pissed that day.

My issue with CFLs is that they buzz and do not dim.

they shouldn't buzz but i hear you on the dimming. they make dimmable ones but from what i hear they suck. i never actually used them though.

if you're really hooked on using the dimmer then cfls might be a pain in the ass. but those incandescent bulbs are murder on your bill if you have them all over the house and it's so simple to change them out.

i went to the lamp system myself. i just turn on another lamp if i want more light. it's not for everyone, though. i keep my place pretty dark by most standards.

never mind what the power company thinks of you. think of the money. 27% is a lot of money that could be back in your pocket over the course of a year.

you wouldn't believe what i put up with to save a buck. everything from the place i live to the annoying loud flapping pilot flame on my gas heater to leaving the car a/c broken...

getting rid of the fridge is on my radar, too but i'm sort of attatched to it. it was my grandmother's and i grew up with it and now it's mine. i love how it's so old and still works and hasn't been serviced in over 25 years. the quality of it impresses me and it reminds me of being a kid rummaging around in there for candy and the orange juice in the green carton.
