Hello & welcome all...
After a 2 year break due to divorce, unemployment & forclosure I decided to up the stakes a little.
Most of my experience is with micro cfl cab grows, so this will be hhmmm...interesting?
Haven't been involved in this size grow in about 10 years, so all help (within moderation) is welcome and encouraged.
Kit:
600W HPS digital, switcheable
4' x 2' x 5' hydro mylar tent
homemade extractor/ventilation using high speed desk fan (roughly 60 cfm)
digital thermometer
ph test + ph down
Fox Farm soil (probably switch to coco soon)
1.5 Gal (6 Lt) Pots
tent1.jpgtent3.jpgtent2.jpg

Should be buying nutes & clones tomorrow...might germ a couple bagseed aswell...

It might help to mention my intentions before going any further.
I am a medical patient, allowed 15 plants. shooting for a 3 month turn around, so cycling 5 plants a month. I am starting back up with soil to begin, but after seeing the crazy results people are getting from coco i think i might have to make the switch.

anyone know of any good strains that respond well to this type of grow?
any good guides for using coco?
any tips useful for this type of grow?

...anyone care? hahaha:dunce:

I would start with PRO MIX as this will be the most forgiving in terms you getting back into the swing of things. It is slower then coco but much more forgiving in terms of PH . I used straight tap water with FLORA NOVA GROW and BLOOM, never PH the water, EVER and came out with a decent yield in my DR60 tent with 250 watt hps. I am now doing a scrog with a 400 watt in cooltube in the same 2x2x5 tent and am starting to use coco. though I still recommend the PRO MIX as a starting point. It will get you results

After way too much delay...
tent9.jpgtent10.jpgtent11.jpgtent12.jpgtent13.jpg
from left to right...Black Haze, NYC Diesel, Ice, SS Widow...
the only reason i got these particular clones is they were the healthiest looking...
i really hope they work ok for this method of growing...any thoughts?

tent7.jpgtent8.jpg
And a couple pics of the lovely ladies in their new home...:)...:-D......:bigjoint:

should be transplanting this afternoon...or do you think i should wait a day or two?...anyone?...

*If you look at the first pics up top of the thread you can see how my vent originally looked...

...and now...
tent4.jpgtent5.jpg

...so i took some snips to all the grill fins on the front of the fan to cut down on resistance, but on the backside i had to leave 4 sets of 2 fins evenly spaced for structural support... the front of the 'vornado' fan grill was 7+3/4" dia. and flared down to a little over 8", so i got an 8" to 6" vent/duct reducer and gorilla taped it snug over the front of the fan...now it looks like a jet turbine ...but it directs the airflow EFFICIENTLY out the top of the tent...and it ended up being half the cost of an inline fan......yay!

...the tent now runs about 6f - 10f warmer than my room...

tent6.jpg

...'plugged' it into a 6" swivel 90...then 6" flexi duct...
...i have now duct tape sealed all seams, seals, cracks etc...

...operating temps have been within just 3f of room temp...not quite sure why i keep getting all these fluctuations...

Normally i think i would've waited a couple days before doing this...
but they were looking a little unhappy in their dixie cups...and i didnt want them getting sick...

before...
tent14.jpg

...and after...
tent15.jpg
the black haze ( back right) and the NYC diesel (front right) are in 2-3 gal pots...
...and the ice (back left) aswell as the SS widow (front left) are in 1.5 gal pots...

...the 'ice' was starting to get really droopy...so i decided to give them all a little drink...bout 1.5 - 2 cups each...
...after i did this the temp dropped...hhmmm...evaporation?...

the girls are looking very...awake this morning...
all of them seem upright and alert...but especially the ice. i was quite worried about her last night, but it seems she has made a recovery...
think i'll mix up a 5 gal bucket of treated and ph'd water...not sure if i'll give them anymore til tomorrow, we'll see how they look...

Keeping an eye on your post, I just starting germinating some good bagseed about 5 minutes ago. I'm also in a 2x2x5 GL 60, using the 12/12 method til sexing, then might scrog a little.....will use mix of FF Ocean Forest and some Black Gold.....1st grow here, was a former phototron user.....Your plants look healthy but was def time to lose the dixie cups ( I will start in peat cups ). I'm no expert, but I've grown good stuff before in the Phototron.

Seeing your strain collection I think you and I live close by, They always have them clones @ My dispensary and I think our state is the onl one w. 15 plant law.

Your setup looks good!
Seems you didnt miss a step getting back into it.
I think you transplanted at the perfect time, Who knows how long they were sitting in the cups for. How did the root mass look?

If coco doesnt go good for you , I recommend buying some Promix HP - Its coco based w/ bennies in it. I love it!

'm subbed up- gotta go into work but ill stop by later . take care and good luck!

thanks for checking it out, appreciate the feedback and piece of mind...
the black haze and nyc diesel had very strong looking and established roots and the ice didnt look so bad for being crammed in that little cup, but the ss widow roots hadnt really spread that much yet...
i keep hearing about this pro mix stuff...where would i look for it?

I live in Pierce and on rt 7 near 512 they have it, Not sure if we are that close but worth meantioning.

Most hydo stores should carry it, If not should be able to order it. 38$ for like 65 lbs of dirt. Or you can make somethng similar, something like 40%coco, ugh not sure on the rest of the % but its Peat - perlite and sand, with myco added (like great white additive) - also it has wetting agents added too. Just make sure you get the HP one of the Promix, it has more perlite and wont compact like the other BX labeled one.

...so i de-chlorinated ph'd and treated a 5 gal bucket of water and stuck it in the closet to sit for future waterings...
if im remembering correctly, these young ones dont drink too much til flowering kicks off...

...almost 8 hours into the day cycle and the girls really haven't drank that much...
think i'll hold off watering for at least another day. maybe they're a little shocked from the transplant yesterday...

...i shall have to keep a close eye on the ice. think she may have been suffering from a little root bind when i transplanted. shes a far cry better from the sorry droopy state she was in last night, but definately slow to bounce back in comparison to the others...

:fire::finger::cuss:!!!!BUGS!!!!:cuss::finger::fire:

contact!...while conducting presence patrol in the 'grow tent' this afternoon...came under attack by element of unknown enemy winged insects...
though suffering no casualties, made tactical withdrawal as counter attacks proved futile...

...seriously though...

I have had no experience with any bugs while doing micro grows in the past...trying to avoid ANY method of eradication that may possibly affect the quality (taste, smell) of my buds...help...anyone?

I forgot to add in the PM, Ladybugs! Some local nursery's carry them. Release em in fire teams and keep the reserves in the freezer for when the other finally go AWOL. LOL
