right now i am growing soil to. won't start the hydro back up till after this harvest and i get the new tests setup. just wanted to know if giving your soil plants cooler water (62-66 degrees) was beneficial when you are in soil.

here's some pics of the 4 plants i have in flower right now. day 12. in the first pic the two in the background are the power plant. they seem to be stretching more than the other 2 put also seem to be a little yellow. not sure if it is the strain or not. noticed a little burn on them. nothing major though. doing feed, feed, water for the last few weeks. when i water them i just give them cal/mag at 150-200ppm and some thrive alive (2.5ml per gallon). workes out to about 300ppm total. could be that the power plant like less nutes. not sure yet though. i trimmed them up really good a few days ago. thinking about going scrog but not sure if i have the room. will probably have to put up some sort of net though. or tie the stems together as supports. not sure yet. i've got some time so i wanna see what they do.

well in that case, like i said earlier, room temp would stress them the least or not at all. btw beautiful girls man, good vigor. the leaves perky leaves are always a good sign, power plant is quite a yielder too. is this your first time growing her?

hey hellraizer, that 300ppm's is what i feed them every 3rd water basically. they were at 1000ppm the first week of flower. then a 300ppm thrive alive and cal mag water earlier this week. i watered them again today and they got 1200ppm. noticing some very slight tip burn. i may stick around 1200ppm for a while till i see them catch up. i was gonna try and get them to 1600ppm in week 4-5.

thanks man. this is the first time i've EVER really grown mj. did a few t5 grows on the side of my workshop but nothing serious. bagseed and i when i went to flower i just put them in the yard. that was last summer. those were no nutes, shitty soil, etc... this is my first time with good genetics and real lighting.

your a natural, that small amount of tip burn isnt too bad but if it progresses you should do a flush. anyway, hellraizer made a good suggestion about the nutes. youll need to bump them up, do it really gradually and watch for burns. i come back 3 hours after adding nutes to check if i need to flush.

That's awful hot for soil nuglets, I've never seen any reason to go above 800-900 ppm in soil, even for the hungriest strains I've finished. Your runoffs would most likely indicate a higher runoff amount, there is typically some residual nutes from previous feedings. Just cautioning you to keep a close eye, nute burn is an obvious risk but prolonged excessive feeding can also cause your substrate PH to drift becoming more acidic, potentially locking nutrients out. Something to consider is to pour your runoffs through a coffee filter into a solo cup and test the runoff PH and PPM. I've always tried to keep my runoff ppms under 1200 and no more than 30% higher than what I am putting in.

thanks for the input man. i've been trying to push them kinda hard i guess. that's why i've been doing just water every third go feeding. i've also don 2-3 full flushes on them during veg. put 12-14 gallons of just water through the pots. i'm gonna keep a close eye on them for now. if i see any sign of burn i'm gonna flush. up to this point they seem to be liking it though. very minor tip burn on ust a few leaves every now and them but for the most part really healthy. i haven't tested the soil ph lately. i'll do that tonight. it's been sticking around 6.0-6.4 the last times i tested it though. i'll keep you posted.

No problem nuglets, I'd say you're doing awesome! Everyone has to find their own style. I've grown almost entirely in soil, a bit of coco and peat here and there and I've been through all the hassle of overfeeding, flushing and chasing PH. IMHO feeding aggressively is just not worth it growing in soil. Flushing is not something you want to do in flower unless its completely necessary. It takes time for the plant to recover in soil. In the long run, feeding less yields more, keeps the soil working in harmony and stabilizes PH.
Keep an eye on that PH, you're walking a fine line if your runoffs are metering as low as 6.0. Do you ever measure your runoffs with your TDS meter too? Once you get down under a PH of 6 shit goes downhill in a hurry.

i never measure my runoffs. i have a bluelab soil ph meter. i use that. i've heard that easuring runoffs can be pointless. i really don't know though if i should be doing it. the 2 times i did it in veg my runoff was 6.3-6.5 on all of the plants. the way i am watering now i really don't have any runoff to measure. i get maybe a few drops out of each pot. i haven't flushed them in flower yet. thanks for the headsup on that. i'm gonna see how they are doing tonight and then dial the nutes back to 900ppm for a while. maybe that will fix the few minor problems i have.
what do you think about that plan? also, what about my only giving them ph water with cal mag and thrive alive every third water? does that sound right to you? maybe i should do 900ppm feeding, then the cal/mag and thrive alive feeding at 300ppm, then just water? any thoughts?

so i changed out the mh bulb i had in the flower room for a hps one. it's basically been 2 weeks and that was the time frame that i read you should use it for. i guess i have nothing to judge it against but it made sense to me. so that experiment is over. on to hps flowering. tomorrow will be 2 weeks in flower.
plants all look great. can't see any signs of nute burn from yesterdays 1250ppm feeding. i've decided to go with the feed, cal/mag & thrive alive (200-300ppm), then water schedule. this way i definitely won't over fertilize my plants. plus i have a buddy who basically does that but with a tea instead of the cal/mag watering i'll be doing.

well...i've got my first pests. i have no clue what they are. they are tiny (the size of a pinhead). blackish grey. they almost look like tiny slugs. i would need a serious lens to even get a picture of them. i have no clue what they are. they are not on the leaves or on the top of the soil. they are all around the holes in the bottom of the pots. gonna take the plants out tomorrow and spray them with some doktor doom on the bottoms of the pots. see what that does.

a dunk of the entire root ball and pot may be better, Nugs. spraying the drain holes will only effect visible bugs. would love to see one, have someone ID it, and find appropriate agent to deal with it. that would be ideal

how do you mean scrogs? dunk the whole bucket in a solution? i only have the aerosal cans of doktor doom. or should i dunk in diluted neem oil? do you mean remove the plants from the bucket them dunk? i'll try and get a pic tomorrow.

could be mites, diced garlic(might effect smell unless outdoor, then it will wash away with rain or a heavy spray), canola oil(dont recommend in late flower), marigold flowers, jalepeno peppers(same with the diced garlic), and neem oil may be your best bet. the garlic, neem and marigolds are safe for top soil, the rest should be used in foliar spray. only use about a teaspoon of canola in foliar though, give it a good shake before spraying too. all these mixed together will deter almost everything bad. spraying on the bottoms of the leaves is also helpful, could do that with a heavy stream and regular water and itd help. good luck nuglets!
