My late june garden.. help please

I was wondering.. Why do you guys have gardens?
Hobby? Freshest fruits and vegetables? Do you love flowers?

I hate growing vegetables or fruit. Squirrels and bugs always reap the rewards of my hard labor. I like flowers. They interest me. Colorful little petals designed to attract things to it just to spread it's pollen. Kinda cool.

A garden tiller would help you but manual labor works. Corn, beans, cukes, squash, radishes . Pick up a bag of your favorite fertilizer. . The work is never ending. Good luck

So far I've dug up a 5x11 area but it's only 7 inches deep..

I'm gonna go out with the pick and my shovel in a little while when the sun goes down.
In a weird way, the work is fun.

It is fun in a weird way lol. It's like you're putting your energy toward something that'll reward you down the way.

I have a garden because I'm generally pretty lazy & don't get out much. Since I started my garden, I've been going outside a lot more & paying attention to the weather outside, etc. It helps me get active again & its something to feel good about doing.

take it easy in that sun. you don't have to go deep........go tall. build up mounds and plant in them

If I would have thought this through, I probably would have rented one. Instead, I ripped the bong, rolled a blunt, grabbed the shovel, and got more than half of the work done. Pshhh FAIL!!

When I did it, I just decided to grab a hoe and get it done. lol But it's some work.

Yessir, hard work but well worth it already.

This may sound gross.. But I was thinking of grabbing a shovel, a bag, and paying the cows next door a visit. But then I start thinking. Even though their poop is good compost, isn't fresh manure pretty bad for your plants?

Plus it would make the fruits and veggies shitty

I landscape and garden my 6 acre property with wildflowers,shrubs and trees and it has become a part of my life! I'm doing something new every week! It's like therapy for me! I enjoy giving plants and chance to live on my property! They are almost like pets to me!

I think it's no good fresh, you can add it to your compost heap if you have one.

I'll toss it in a new compost heap and turn it every week for a year then use it. Sound like a good plan?

Loquat you say? Funny, I grew one of those amazing trees from seed and have had it for 3 years but have never took the time to research the name. Yours is way bigger than mine, I'll post pics tomorrow. Rep for growing a cool tree.

I love the fruits btw.

Mine's going pretty good, I'll have to toss a pic in of it.
Its got just the stuff i dug out of the ground to make my garden, Kitchen scraps (only from raw fruit & vegetables), some grass, and some stuff I cut off of a hedge plant that was getting too big. I even went ahead and tossed in the dirt I pulled out when I added soil. I don't have a pitchfork (would be best for turning it), So I chop it with a machete and move it by hand.

It doesn't smell bad hardly at all. If it does begin to smell bad, you need to toss it more and break it up more.
The good bacteria is aerobic bacteria and needs oxygen to thrive, bad bacteria is anaerobic and thrives after the aerobic bacteria die.
Oh, and you want to wet it down from time to time.

That's about all I know so far.

edit: anaerobic bacteria is what makes it stink.

Officially finished digging. My bud came through with a bobcat and made my garden whole too big lol. I'll probably end up only using half of what he dug up.

Now I need to go to the store and buy some more soil. You said one bag per cubic foot right reppin?

i don't have much dough, so i've done 1 bag of soil per 4sq ft +mixed with existing soil. If I could though I'd do 2 bags of black gold potting soil & 1 bag of nulife mixed compost for every 4sq ft. You should go for that, make sure you get a good even mix.
