Landlords CANNOT come and go as they please. You have the right to privacy, they felt so strongly about this right they made a special Constitutional amendment prohibiting the government from ever negating this right. A landlord cannot just5 come up and go in your home, they have to give notice first and it has to be for a actual good reason, he can't just show up to snoop around.

Anyone who says landlords can do what they want doesn't know much about being a landlord.

The landlord needs to give you "reasonable notice" before entering your property. That is (12-24 maybe 72 hrs) That goes for management as well. That is my states renters laws. But I dont know what state you live in.

Now here's the deal /ross perot...

When you sign a contract with a landlord you are typically agreeing to use it solely for residential purposes. That means you are not going to be running a business out of it. It is written right into all standard contracts.

Therefore, if you are not up front with your landlord, you are already breaking the contract. You would need to amend the contract to allow you to grow x amount of plants for personal use or whatever. Most landlords dont like the chance of their doors getting kicked in and/or the place burning down. Of course you can find the occasional cool landlord as well. However, if you are not up front then it is all at your risk.

i have rights to at-least a 10x20 greenhouse written into my lease i wouldn't do it any other way!

very very true i was actually in a similar situation except i wasn't home when they busted in. my landlord and security busted in to turn my stereo down at 8 pm and in my lease it specifically said i would be presented with a 24 hour notice before entering an apartment. it also said they could enter AFTER 9 pm for noise complaints but like i said they entered at 8.they saw both my grows and my landlord told me i had 3 days to get the plants out or move out, i sat down and read through my lease then walked down to the management office and told him i had "consulted my family lawyer" (complete bluff lol) and that it was an illegal search and legally he shouldn't have any knowledge of whats going on in my apartment because it was an illegal search therefore everything he saw is inadmissible. literately he had a big grin on his face when i sat down with him but the second i dropped the line about my lawyer and his illegal search his face turned fuckin pale! it was awesome. i then proceeded to TELL him exactly it was gonna go down, i told him i was going to finish my flowering plants and just continue my veg until the end of my lease in lie 3 months and he bit his lip for a second and said fine. it was one of the most satisfying moments ever. looking back now i should have let him kick me out and sued the living fuck out of him. but now iv got that hindsight

It sounds like your landlord turned you in, and seeing as how it's their property the cops were more than happy to oblige. So technically they didn't need a search warrant if they had the landlords permission. However in most states landlords must give 24 hours before making entry so you may have a viable case on your hands if you want to pursue legal action. Did you request badge numbers, warrant, etc.?For future reference always be up front with a landlord and tell them you have a medical card and that you grow your own and would like to know if this is ok with them before getting into a new lease. (Getting this in writing is a good idea too.)Sorry to hear about that man, totally sucks. =(-On a side note, do you happen to use a common internet connection between all the residents where you live? If so, your web activities may have been being monitored.

That's not correct.. If you rent a property then it's your domicile.. The landlord has no more direct right to it unless there is an emergency, or he gives notice of intent to enter..
