no sweat, when i transplant into the final pot in the summer i always take an inch or two from the root ball, no problems. just dont take too much off. It can grow more quickly in a DWC

Damn, Now im a little scared to work on them.
I used to feel like that too...just try and remember these are very resilient plants and can grow under lots of different conditions. I once had a plant in flower for about 5 weeks when I decided I was gonna change the rez. Without thinking I unhooked all the big colas from the wall (they were anchored) and pulled the plant out to change the water (it was in a closet and I needed it outside the closet to work on it.). And one by one as I got farther away from the wall the stems were buckling due to the weight of the colas (they were anchored to the wall). Every one of the big colas had buckled and were now laying on the floor. I thought I had ruined everything, I cried. BUt I picked em all up and reanchored everything to the wall...and to my amazement...they didnt miss a beat. They just kept on growing and growing...so...I know its hard not to worry about these little plants that become a part of you for 3 months or more...but they're pretty tough...so I wouldnt worry too much...she'll grow lots more roots =)...good luck!

I agree... especially in a DWC, you're fine.
Think about how much roots you lose if you have to deal with root rot or algae? And I've seen plenty of plants bounce back from that.
Don't lose sleep over this, wait for the next problem, then lose sleep... LOL

a slight trim should be alright... as I stated earlier, I've seen people who've lost almost half of their roots in DWC and the ladies bounced back. It took time with that much loss, but they made it.
they are but one little root cluster will not kill anything, you have to ruin the whole system to mess it up bad.

When I transplant I intentionally just slam the plant into the pot. The roots become looser, they try to recover and it's easier for them to begin to fill the new pot.
Drooping doesn't really happen when I do this.

Thats not what i meant. I was talking about when I need to lift a pot to top up or inspect the water in the resevoir. I've never really lifted a plant with roots hanging down its bottom before.
