Want to ban guns?

I do not like the fact that guns are too easily obtained.

I do respect the rights to defend one's self.

I do not except as fact, that a gun owned through proper means is a safe one.

I do except as fact, that knowledge of said gun is a must.

We are the weapon, the choice of armament we wield matters only to the victim and those left to witness.

Edit: Am I seeing, circular logic at play here? :blsmoke:

I seee no circular logic but will disagree with the "fact" in lemma 1. It is an opinion. In every state in which i have lived, obtaining a gun was not easy, and in this state many perfectly ordinary guns are not permitted for sale. cn

not sure about getting guns legally, but getting an illegal firearm is quite easy. from what I have seen in my experiences

I don't want to sound pithy, but how is it then that so many guns end up in the hands of "thugs"?

I ask simply for debate, not to incur arrogance

I have no ill will to any here and the prior statement in no way reflects my thoughts on the posters here, let alone cn, to whom I've posed this question.

My answer? Because there are many many "thugs". When you have a large population, a nonzero proportion will be sociopathic. Those are essentially impossible to "screen out", to the grief of those who believe that such screening would lead to safety.

I prefer not to be held hostage by public opinion crystallized around the acts of extremists. Jmo. cn

probably cause dumb people need to find other ways to be successful at life ( a.k.a. get that money son). theyre not exactly educated , so they most likely cant get a well paying job. but that doesnt mean it is acceptable

there is an important distinction between absolute safety and more safety.

mandatory background checks, clip capacity, and restrictions on guns made for warfare rather than self defense or hunting would satisfy most.
I cannot concur. Then why have the more restrictive states not relaxed their statutes to meet the mark you just set?
And you cannot purchase guns made for warfare in the USA, excepting grandfathered Class III exceptions. It returns to the proper v. media definition of assault rifle/"assault weapon". ALL weapons are assault weapons ... the remainder is called armor. cn

There are 500,000 guns stolen annually. Source: John Hopkins U. Not to mention all the guns that get stolen from military installations that never get reported.

Irresponsible gun owners are a very large part of the problem.

"Collector Antiques" and a machinist go along way.

Machinists go along way if you know the right ones.

I would think the thieves are the bigger part of that problem. I could suggest outlawing theft, but they've got one hell of a lobby. cn

forgive my lack of knowledge on guns, but are there not fully automatic weapons with 30 rounds in the clip available? i'm almost certain that there are, and that they serve a purpose meant for a battlefield rather than self defense or hunting.
