Here it comes - gun control!!!

I don't understand why cops use the German Shepard so much. The Caucasian Ovcharka would tear it up. But unlike the Pitbull, it can be easily trained and will release on command.
racist!

also, most police dogs are Belgian Sheppards.

the German Sheppards are too stupid and difficult to train.

belgian sheppards have a smooth bite, with a shake, and an easy release, they do not instinctively lock down, nor do they generally go for the neck.

pit fighting dogs instictively go for the kill, while herding dogs usually nip, threaten and pursue, using the threat of violence to controll the sheep, and when confronted b the predator or violent opposition they try to disable the opponent (hamstringing leg breaking etc...) rather than getting that neck bite and riding the wolf/bear/human to the ground.

for similar purposes but with predictably roman results.

its becuz they are a great working dog breed that is easily trained and once trained will be loyally faithful till death. they have the best sense of smell compared to any other breed in its class with its long snout which is why they are used as security dogs for our borter protection agents. not to mention the ease it takes to train them. they are actually amazingly smart. not to mention their over all size is intimidating and they can be trained in self defense and can be trained to attack without them having or showing aggression of their own. they rely completely on their owners or trainers emotions when at work. at home is a dif story. they can be just as playful as puppies. but again its all in the training. also they are surprisingly strong for their size and their teeth and coat need less maintenance than other long or medium haired working dogs. its the same reasons that i got my Shepard actually.

also my Shepard is really smart. all the Shepard mixes can be. u just need to train them from pups and u need patients becuz they are extremely energetic at the young age...

German Shepherds have a moderate temperament which makes them take orders well. They're incredibly smart, and fervent in their duties. They're typically under 100lbs, agile, and quite fast.

Caucasian Ovcharka are gigantic. Possibly over 200lbs, not very agile and have widely varying personality traits, e.g. very ferocious and cruel, or very timid. They're also potentially stubborn as mules, not the best traits when you need a dog to ask 'how high' when you tell it to jump.

If the police wanted dogs specifically for dog fighting, then yes, the Caucasian Ovcharka would 'tear up' the German Shepherd. If the police want a dog to do police work, the German Shepherd is one of the best choices.

Difficult to train?

You obviously have never had a real GS in your home. I will put my Shepherd against any animal for IQ and temperment. Sure there are meaner, but smarter, no way. Mine is a working Shepherd, not one of those sloped ass AKC show dogs. There are 3 main breeds of shepherds and the best from that 3 are the ones that are bred from Czechoslovakia as working class dogs.
Some refer to them as flatbacks and they will eat a regular Shepherd for lunch. So before you dis, know what you speak of.

a poodle can look scary as fuck if you piss it off, make it lunge, and drape it in a harness made of chains for no reason beyond "looking intimidating" (since the leather harness is doing all the restraining and the chains are decorative)

the actual german sheppard is as dumb as a box of rocks.

the alsatian is the dog you got there. a herding dog bred from belgian sheppards and several other working breeds, well adapted to moderately cold temps, high altitudes and guarding livestock from wolves.

the term "german sheppard' was invented by a kraut around 1900 for a proposed "perfect working dog", but in the 1930's and 40's the "german sheppard" was still so uncommon and poorly bred that the nazis had to use belgian sheppards to guard their POW camps since the "german sheppards" were too stupid and randomly aggressive to be trained. to this day most "german sheppards" are just smooth coated belgian sheppards or alsatians.

i used to keep border collies and retreivers, but no, i had no use for german sheppards. because if they are not randomly aggressive to strangers and livestock, dumb and sickly they were ALSATIANS.

edit: belgian sheppards (usually malinois) are the most popular breed in the world for police/military/security/bombsniffing/drugsnifing/anything where they stand next to a guy in uniform work.

Still not intimidating looking.

Dogs in general are great. I love my animal, but he was purchased for a purpose and if that purpose is not met, then he is a liablility, not an asset and has to go.
His job is to let me know in advance that something is not right. If an intruder comes and he alerts me, his job is over as far as I am concerned. It is then my place to get involved and if he doesnt get the hell outa the way, he will get carried out with the rest of the trash and we will get another one. If I wanted a lap dog, I would get one that doesn't weigh 105 and crap 5lbs at a whack.

i had one years ago as a boy. i raised it from a pup and it turned on me. they are loyal but in their old age they begin to lose it. i had to put it to sleep becuz it snapped at me a few times and chased a neighbor down the street. they are great til they start aging. old age doesnt treat their mental health very well in my opinion.

Yep, a Chow Chow will tend to nip after a while. The Caucasian won't. Plus a Caucasian will eat it for a midnight snack. The Caucasian is very reliable. There's a reason the Russians used them exclusively.

Damn, I have to agree as I think my wife feels the same. I seem to be getting a bit more volitile as the years go by (crowding 50). Maybe I need some paxil or something, who knows.

so basically a doberman with a lot more imbreeding and a really fucked up temperament. not good with kids and most adults. horrible with strangers. lol. made to kill.
How did you get it was inbred and had poor temperament?

The only thing that you said that might be even remotely considered true is 'horrible with strangers'. While they're not horrible, they are suspicious of strangers but so are lots of dogs that were bred for protective purposes.

Way to jump to conclusions without any accurate information.

just about every dog in that post u mentioned was from a breed at one point or another that was inbred. inbreeding leads to horrible issues late in life like mental issues which is one of my main concerns. the dobies are known for it along with a few other breeds u mentioned that make up that one dog. again its not with all dogs. id just not rather take the chance of having an old dog of mine snap on me again. becuz that one in the special will in fact snap and turn even with the kindest of treatment. again its just internet research and my personal experiences that lean my opinion away from them so dont get ur panties in a knot. lol. its just chatting about dogs.
