Suggestions for a good Greenhouse.

I'm looking into a possible outdoor greenhouse between 8x10-10x20. I've seen a couple from Home Depot and Costco. Does anybody have any experience with any types of greenhouses? Nothing real expensive but something I can make fairly sturdy, it's windy in my area. What type of cover material should I be looking for? What other things might be needed? I'm not using lights, just the sun. Will fans be necessary, or will the vents and doors be adequate? I'm trying not to run any power lines into it. Are they practical and do they work well? I've researched some and haven't really found many answers. Sure there's a lot of info about greenhouse growing but no real suggestions or reviews about the different brands and where to buy them. I'm looking for something less than $500. Home Depot has one for about $270, looks decent, any info? I appreciate any feedback you all could give me.

Hoop house few pieces of 1/2 inch PVC or whatever thickness some joints and rebar to pound in the ground it put the PVC on to keep the shape and some 6 mil clear painter plastic! Prolly cost you 100 bucks some clamps and zip ties and your good. And you need to keep it down so keep sand bags or
sethong to hold it down.

Great suggestion, I have noticed them on this forum. Are they fairly strudy in the wind? Not worried about anchoring them, I have some cement piers I could use, but I'm worried more about the canopy swaying back and forth. I guess I could rid up some braces between the hoops. I could probably stake and tie down the end hoops but waht about the inner hoops? Maybe stake and tie from the inside? This might be the way to go. Anybody out there who has actually built one? What problems have you run across? Thanks again.

I think as long as you have no way the wind can get under it and blow it away it should be ok PVC is a pretty sturdy plastic it ahold withstand winds as long as you don't do jus 2 PVC one in each end and nothing in the center to support I would say if your doing a 20 footer I would do 5 PVC every 4 feet that should be good if not throw a few more and you want a top support and if you don't mind spending the money a support half way up. So 3 in total one in the top and 2 in the center so 5 feet or so up. Check out YouTube they have some good videos on there that would probably help!

where are you located? have you used it thru a summer? How much are they?.....

I don't think you should overlook the costco car port, they are amazing!

they want $500-$600 bucks for one of those. You could build several carports for less. I've have lots of experience growing in carports.Those greenhouse's don't have enough ventilation for Ganja, you'll need to add fans...........here in Cali, you would steam your plants in one of those without several fans & maybe even a cooler......good luck

Ive been thinking about that. The temps are pretty high here in Nor Cal. The car port is good although I would only need the frame. I would not be able to move the cover on and off everyday. I would need something transparent permanently on the top. I could open the sides everyday. Right now I've got my garden surrounded by a fence with white drop cloths tacked up on the sides for wind protection, but I open up the sides in certain areas during the day for better ventilation. But it would be almost impossible for me cover and uncover that whole carport. If you use 6mil plastic how do you connect the seams?

you can buy 6mil plastic in rolls that are large enough to cover the roof in one piece. I recommend greenhouse film from Farmtek, you can buy 6mil greenhouse film cut to any size you need. You can find 6mil plastic at Home Depot but the sun will cook it in just a few months, it won't last long. Watch craigslist for cheap carport frames, I see them every week. This year I ordered a clear 16mil tarp to fit a carport frame from Farmtek for $120. It should last for many seasons. I attach it with zip-ties. Hang sun screen mesh for walls & doors......good luck

So does the tarp allow the sunlight to pass through it? In my location I need to be able to get sunlight from the top, the sides not so much, it's just the way the trees and fences are blocking the sun. Thanks for that link, appreciate your replies.

Yes, the tarp material made for greenhouses. Where are you in Nor Cal?....there are several cheap carport frames currently listed on craigslist.
