Picking off male flowers on o hermaphrodite

Someone told me that if you have a predominantly female plant that puts out a few male flowers that you can pick them off and thereby save your plant from becoming seeded and/or from seeding the rest of your crop. Any thoughts on this?

A friend of mine had a hermie and picked the balls off. He said they grew back double in number.

really? damn...what if you had the time to inspect every night and clip them then? I messed up and grew bagseeds, and have 4 hermies. I was wondering about keepin the pollen to a low with clipping off the pods and bananna looking things

i had one hermie and tried the same thing. like the other person said mine grew back in higher numbers. if you are anywhere near 8 weeks.... early harvest might be an option to save any good bud left on your plant

If you get a hermie plant to the 8 week stage and harvest early, apart from the fact that you harvest early, would the buds be affected simply from the fact that it was a hermie???

quantity is affected not quality. i dont know if you take them off it will grow more faster because you dont know what would happen if you had left them. i would chop early myself or it will be full of seed

Just out of interest since my 'hermies' are no longer an issue since all of them are now uprooted. I found an answer by Ed Rosenthal where he says that if there is just one branch that is male or hermaphrodite, you can cut it off and the rest of the predominantly female plant will stay female. Also, if a plant is very near the end of its budding cycle and it pops out a few male flowers in the buds you are safe to leave them. Pity I didn't find all of this out before I pulled 4 of my plants though, I could have had a couple of ounces from each one within a few weeks...
Oh well, that guy who was angry with me cause he broke his $3.59 light globe following my post on how to wire your cfls without a socket can have a smug feeling of satisfaction now, I guess!

once they hermie they slow bud growth to form seed. so in my opinion leaving them would mean more seed less bud. it`s a bit risky to leave them if they pollenate then it`s full of seed. basicaly it`s a pesonal thing. no wrong or right

You are absolutely correct! I have grown a hermie and it was a femdom, but it had balls on just a couple of branches,so all i did was remove the pollen sacs and when it matured i harvested the plant and the smoke was great!! The leaves stunk up my whole down stairs closet for a week until i made kiev and hash out of it..mmmm!

That is true in some cases but if you are growing a potent strain then the bud that is harvested will be as good as its genetics.Remember that you can harvest and smoke a male plant and yes they are quite potent.

To my knowledge at best you can make hash. Little to no thc production throughout male plants.

my buddy just chopped his chemo down at 4 weeks( same as i am growing) because it hermied. we smoked some of the leaf and got just as high as the crap another friend got from a local dispensary. cant wait for my bud.
