In your case.. with a small area.. I honestly do not think it's worth the trouble to change anything...
I agree. The only reason I would see you would need to change things is if there is shade on some plants. Otherwise I don't see it making too much difference.
1. Y. 2
....Y. 3

This is how its laid out, with Y representing the two plants right under the lights and X
1, 2, 3 representing the others not DIRECTLY underneath.

Obviously, the two Y's are growing taller slightly.

I plan on switching them all around tomorrow to let them alternate under the best two spots.

BUT, I think you guys might be right...

I don't know though for sure. I DO know that I am putting the HPS bulb in later, as I want them to get the full effect of the best bulb I have (Eye Hortilux, top PAR rating, like 130 or 140k lumens, don't remember).

I am still pretty stoked....Wish I would have pruned better below 1/3 of the plants....

7 days into flower, think its too late to do some semi-major pruning below 1/3?

Warning: The following is merely the opinion of a 2 time grower. I have not read this, heard this, or been suggested it.

I don't think it's too late, but you probably set them back a couple weeks at least. I think it's just a matter of time. Now what I don't know... is if the plants will be matured in the same amount of time. See what I mean. It may be that the plants will be ready 8 weeks from today pruning or no pruning... only with pruning you miss a week or two of any growth becuase of the stunting. However it may just set the whole grow back 2 weeks in which case you only lose time.

I may be totally full of $%@# on this... I really don't know, but thought this would be a good wall to bounce ideas off.

EDIT: Jess, I'm sure when you make diagrams and stuff, they are clear to someone... but they always confuse the hell out of me, haha. I get the idea though, bro.

Lol!

Jig I thought my diagram was simple and easy to get....

Ahh well. Its not important anyway.

So, per Jig and Gypsy's respective lines of advice, I am going to prune today (and take clones from the trimming), take all the plants out, clean up a bit under them, and put thm back in different order.

Since I am only on day 8 of flower, it should be fine!

I put the HPS bulb in last night and forgot to switch the switch to FROM MH TO HPS....:spew:

Dumbass I am. Didn't blow the bulb luckily. The ballast just never fired and all is well now, minus one hour of light missed by my girls.

So, I will be taking quite a few pics when I pull them out. Its been a while since I have given you guys individual shots of the ladies so I will do so.

Also plan to take before/after pics of the pruning. Busy day! Gotta water EVERYTHING too, even the veg room! :peace:

Thanks for all the input fellas! I am been readin Al B again for the 3rd time...Man that guy gets just about EVERYTHING...

Well, stay tuned! :joint:

nah.... not really... I suppose if you ran it like that for a long time it could..... but the only real difference is the ignitor...... I recommend you do some research regarding how HID, MH and HPS in particular, lamps are designed and operate. You may be surprised how much cheaper it would be to build your own ;).

Well I already paid for these....and I don't need anymore....

And I can't build a tent properly...

You're confidence may very well be misplaced!:razz::lol:

lol, I think your doing just fine. Building a ballast is something of a hobby for my wife. She is working on a digital MH/HPS conversion ballast.... might take her a year to build, lol........... so I gotta buy em if I need em, cuz even though I understand how they work and everything...... fuck that....... keep it up and your gunna get some good smoke.... and thats what counts.....

OK, we have a lot to get through here....I took ALOT of pics today.

First, I pulled all the plants OUT of the closet and cleaned it down with H202 (3%, no dilution).

While it was drying out (and I had a fan shooting the evap. out the door), I pruned everyone of my 5 big girls. Here is an individual pic of each along with its height and name (or whatever...) :?:

Blueberry - Twice FIMmed, 27.5"

Hashberry, once FIMmed, 25"

SKunk #1, no topping/FIMing (nor on any other of the SK), 29.75"

Sk #2, 26"

SK #3, 27.5"

Now, here are some shots of the flower room, back under the EYE Hortilux SUPER HPS....:fire:

Just the 5 big girls...

The entire spread of the flower room, Barb's included.

So it was a BUSY day. After pruning all the plants, I took some clones and then watered EVERYTHING. A couple branches on sk#3 had fallen over she was so thirsty....

Everything is looking great!

NOTE: Do me a favor, take a look at the slide show. I show you the plant's front view, the base, and then the pruning I did. Take a peek if ya want. :weed:

Flower has really started to set it. Pistils are pokin up in large amounts finally. It took 7-8 days ish. Of the Barbs, everyone is female so far, so thats a good sign, as the males have ALWAYS showed first with this strain in the past. Of course the 5 big girls were clones and have had pistils throughout the grow, just not like they are developing now, of course.

SO, things are progressing well! Hit me up with your comments, questions, or blather! :-P

Looking real nice, man. Are you going to trim any more off of the bottom?
Thanks Dill.

I haven't decided yet. Flower is setting in sorta slowly with these ladies and since I am only nine days in, I figure I have time to chop more if I (we) deem it would be beneficial.

Like Gypsy always tells me, you can chop tomorrow what you didn't chop today, but you can't work it the other way around. :-)

What do you think, should I? Still a bit of shade bein created...Maybe I should open up the middle and remove a few fan leaves. Sk#3 in particular is fairly shaded 8-10" from the top on down....

Thoughts?

Hulk thanks for the support. I owe everyone rep. RIU doesn't let me give it out as fast as you guys it seems like.

They look real good Jesse...

My advice is to go with your gut feeling...

When they start to show buds you will be able to compare the tops with the rest... and decide what's worth keeping...

But my experience is that any budsite in the shade will produce lower quality/weight buds...

I would take a little more..... but not a whole lot, the thicker the branch, the higher likelihood the nug will be dense and dank :)....... sun leaves in shade aren't really sun leaves anymore are they?

Thanks Gypsy.

My gut tells me that I might regret not trimming a bit more here and there if there are fluff nugs...

But, I really want to hit at least a 3z average per plant. So I don't want to sell myself short and chop something that would have stretched up and gotten some nice light. So I think I will wait 5-7 more days and re evaluate for one final trim (or not, depending)

Beautiful plants.... lush and real nice.

I think you should cut some more off.

Happy saturday.
Happy Saturday to you as well! :joint:

I think I will eventually, here and there...each plant has a full 7-8" min. of bare trunk now.

I would take a little more..... but not a whole lot, the thicker the branch, the higher likelihood the nug will be dense and dank :)....... sun leaves in shade aren't really sun leaves anymore are they?
I feel like you have a good point here. There are a few more branches here and there that are slightly puny and should probably be trimmed. This is the here and there I mentioned to Jig.

Keep it comin fellas! I appreciate your time!:clap::weed:

My sentiments exactly. :weed:
Thanks guys. I agree. The more I look at the pics the more I can see the dominate branches and then those that are less so. I am going to take a little more off of the bottom of each as well as thin out higher up here and there where growth is less vigorous.

The more I think about it, the more I realize that I could obtain 3z's from each plant easily if the majority of the budding energy is focused up right in full light. These plants are growing roots 2-3" out of the bottom of the 6 gallon containers through the drainage holes. Its fuckin nuts. And they still have QUITE a bit of time left. :joint:

So, I think if I bite the bullet, wince, maybe even cry if I need to, and do a more proper trim, things would be better. I am not going to go all the way up 1/3 of the plant, but I am going to do a bit more. :peace:

Do you guys think 3 z's per plant is at all unrealistic? They are 25.5-30" tall at 10 days into 12/12, with the budsite just truly beginning to set it.

I also have the Barb girls (maybe 5 or 7 of them) that will yield at least 1/2 z each. :leaf:
