how much power would a 70 watt hps setup really use? check this out!

Bulb will use 70watts, the ballast will use an additional 10% (abouts) So figure 80Watts.

The 150 watts one I had used had a ignitor/cap combo with a ballast.

ACtually .....in french they call this type of power source "platine"....I called them and they said it is a ballast with an ignitor incorporated.Thanx for the reply ,but I have another concern now......will 70 watts of HPS be a fire hazard/heat problem in a 16 inch x 16 inch x 42 inch grow tent?

well if so ....will just buy a bigger tent....and use this one for what is actually meant to.....clones or a mother plant.....gotta keep on growing!!
 
Less then 4 feet in height? Thats a small plant. The pot will suck up about a foot of that, and the lamp another foot plus.

I would toss my plants into flowering at the 2 foot mark. They typically grew about another foot. So thats 4 feet there. Each gave me 30-45grams dried.
 
I had a 70w hps for a while and it really doesnt put off more heat than a 42w flouro. I had it 3in from the plants

i would be happy with even less.i m not a big toker , it s my first grow( i took the plant from someone else when it was small= streched and overwatered) ,I learned a lot of things ,and I m starting to like growing more than smoking....
